lairofhk 931
I do agree with you. Ever since BTW, she's been pretty full of herself, and on her high horse about her "artistry" and "creativity", and how she's "every icon", etc. She's always making these huge proclamations ("I am every icon"), and then it's kind of awkward, cuz no one else but her is saying these kinds of things (minus a lot of crazy fans). We all know she's talented, and she knows she's talented. It'd just be nice if she was more modest about it (And let's be honest, she is NOT modest anymore - she once was.) The lyrics, "One second I'm in Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me / Pop culture was in art, now art's in pop culture in me" is pretty much a validation of the fact that she's lost her modesty. I mean, she's literally calling herself Jeff Koons, and saying that art is in pop culture, IN her. Applause is lyrically a fine song, minus that little cringe-worthy segment. I honestly doubt that the Gaga of 3/4 years ago is ever coming back. She's definitely a radically different person. That being said, I'm still interesting in hearing what she's cooking up on ARTPOP. Let's just hope most of it isn't pretentious gibberish.
giskardsb 12,565
There is a very fine line between criticism and bashing. It's not really that fine, but people clearly can't tell the difference or don't care.
Lips de Jolie 0
And by the way, a lot of us do realize that she'll never see The Fame (Monster)-type success again. But it would be nice if she could at least see half of that success again. I'll even settle for a quarter.
aaronyoji 2,054
This is what I mean by delusional stans. No shade but you really aren't seeing the picture here. Iv'e heard so many people around my University saying they don't hate applause, but they also don't love it, and its because its not relatable. The song is about being on stage and adoring the praise you get from it, which practically no one really does so this in no way can be relatable to the general public who doesn't think deeper about lyrics like Gaga fans do. Songs about Cars and money are relatable because people can easily see themselves in that lifestyle, becoming rich and powerful. Its a matter of what people want and see themselves doing in their imaginary worlds, and people imagine themselves to have tons of cars and party nonstop, not go on stage and live for the applause people give you. id rather gaga be unattainable with her best work ever than be liked for crummy music that just regurgitates the same bs.... giskardsb 12,565
Basically I fell in love with Gaga because she moved me deeply with her music and performances but there was a while there where she wasn't doing that at all. I think it's important to remember if you are an artist, entertainer, etc. your calling is to move people, make them feel strongly, make them happy, make them think, etc. It's not about you but you using your gifts to help and lift others(in one way she never forgot to do it with her fan hangouts). yes, but she did this for a whole ton of people in the BTW era, even more so than in her previous era's IMO, even if not for you. She didn't turn her back on any of those things, she just went to themes you didn't relate to.
Vernier 3,786
THIS IS A FREE WEBSITE SO WE ARE ABLE TO SHARE OUR THOUGHTS. SO WHY DO YOU EXPELL THE USERS? BECAUSE THEY DON'T SHARE YOUR OPINION? it's unfair. i don't believe you are doing this. There are mods online, please kindly send them a message, your overreaction and use of caps, acting like a drama queen like one of your relatives is about to be killed irl is annoying  Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn

Let's just hope most of it isn't pretentious gibberish. she was never modest. if you think she was modest about her work earlier one, you are the delusional one, not her. her fame/fame monster days was her peak of heralding her work for a lot more than it was. i could easily pick handfuls of interviews where she calls what she does as "art installation" and "pop performance art" and "inspired by the avant garde" and yet while shes spewing this, her current songs where number one hits about disco sticks and frat parties. like no. she was not modest at all. at least her work now has the platform to live up to that, but now fans like you are stiffening her into thinking talking about her creativity is annoying. its not. i like to know what inspired her work, i like knowing her thought process, i like knowing how she views her work, its her work for cryin out loud. the only one making it seem like gaga has changed is you guys. she hasnt. shes evolved,

Lips de Jolie 0
The fact that she asked us to choose between Aura and Swine for the second single when both songs would NEVER work on the charts. I wonder if she just wanted to know which song people liked more or if she and her team have truly lost it.

Let's just hope most of it isn't pretentious gibberish. That's not her trying to say she's some kind of deity though. That's her taking pride in her work. I'm pretty sure the "icon" statement wasn't even meant in that sense, but rather in her "shape-shifting" ability and also in reference to the homages in the V mag covers.. Also, the Koons/pop culture line is in a way just a true statement; she is the one bringing art into pop culture at the moment. There's nothing wrong or even arrogant about acknowledging that imo It doesn't mean she thinks she's the second coming of Jesus. Anyway, as far as I can remember, she has always talked about art and creativity. It clearly means something to her, so I don't necessarily see how it's pretentious... GagaObsession 1
I sort of agree and don't agree with you. I agree that she could accept a bit more help sometimes but that is just Gaga being her own creative self, she is probably just too concerned that someone would come along and completely change/ruin her ideas.
