Gaga's egocentrism is turning me off and making her "flop"

I like her Applause video more then most of her earlier videos (TF/TFM). So that is all I am going to say.

I really love art. I really love Gaga.

 

But her work isn't as good now as it has been because of poor artistic decisions, not on Gaga's part, but more of choosing poor directors, making sloppy stuff etc.

That is the problem: it hasn't. And I feel like it had to potential to be better, but she wants to prove so much that she's not basic that she flops, because she doesn't know how to make things right on her own.

see, this is the problem. those who complain about her work losing its substance, no one has a solution, they just want to ****ing complain. if she hires someone to write her videos fro her,  we complain that shes become an industry puppet. she takes things into her own hands, then shes unprofessional. if she writes music for us, oh no, dont do that! because gaga needs to "slay" but if she caters music to the lamestream, then she isnt seen as artistic and as different as shes pegged to be.

At the other hand there is the Fame commercial which is like perfect. But it was just an example. I also think that Gagas work with Matthew was ****ing perfect. They created magic.

Don't judge me, please, this is just my opinion.

 

But I found myself thinking about the whole Applause drama, and Born This Way's lack of appeal, and etc, and I feel like it's all her fault. I feel like she's so full of herself and she thinks everything she does is gold and perfect, when in fact she needs a lot of professional help to make her ideas and creativity work.

If anything she's actually the opposite. Have you seen her sometimes this era? She's clearly feeling a bit insecure and is aware of the BTW backlash, that's not the attitude of someone that thinks everything she does is "gold"

 

Let's focus on Applause. I love the song, even though it's not an obvious hit. But I was like: "okay, this is as good as Just Dance, and if Just Dance worked, Applause has a chance to work as well (even tho the lyrics are far from relatable)". But then comes the VMA's performance. Don't get me wrong, I love that performance, but it left so much potential to explore. It's fun and happy, but it's not... epic, remarkable? And you don't need to be shocking to look cool again. The Brit Awards performance just came to mind. How does this relate to the title of the thread? It does because I feel like she feels that the Haus is perfect, when in fact it fails on so many levels, and she just doesn't search for professional help...

Why does she have to be epic every single time? What kind of unrealistic expectation is that, and which artiste has an epic performance? I feel like fans keep living forever in the 2009 VMAs era, maybe it's time to face it that sometimes her performances will just be "good" and "enjoyable" and it isn't always gonna be some grandoise spectacle?

 

And then comes that awful, super dark, all over the place, poorly directed video. I can't stress how much I've been hating Gaga videos since The Fame Monster. And once again, I feel like they all "flop" because she's so full of herself and of her artistry that she doesn't want a PROFESSIONAL DIRECTOR (NOT PHOTOGRAPHERS who are her friends and will say yes to anything she asks for without even thinking if it will work or not) to film it. She NEEDS help, she needs someone to translate her ideas in a comprehensible, relatable way and, most of all, to stop her and tell her "no, this won't work".

This I just disagree with on every level. The only criticism you could probably level at the applause vid is that it goes by too fast because they tried to cram a lot into it. And by "relatable" I'm guessing you mean to the "GP" since that's what this fanbase worries about so much.

I feel like she is surrounded by Yes-men and yes-women and YAS-fans that she doesn't seem to have anyone saying "Gaga, this is convoluted. This doesn't sound that good. This doesn't make sense."

I honestly think that she needs someone negative on her team to keep the reality portion of the fantasy/reality thing she harps about.

 

Do I hate her? no. But I feel she is not hitting her best work internally cause the internal people can't critique her.

 

Look at Steven Klein. Flop after flop of messy "arty" convoluted videos that try to say so much, but stumble because it makes no sense.

Well, I am correct. Not because I'm this superior figure who can never be wrong, but because artists actually can exist without having the same mass appeal that Gaga enjoyed earlier in her career and people actually can continue to enjoy the work of artists who aren't "slaying" the charts, media, or general public. Those are facts, not because I said so but because they're true.

Plus, I'll point out, the entire ARTPOP era has been working with "professionals." I don't think she has done anything on her own yet this era.
