000 0
Aura is nothing like Judas. It isn't blasphemous in any way and speaks about seeing a woman behind her public image, make-up and curtains. The biggest problem with fans choosing singles is they don't say what they like, they say what other people would think of the songs... why? You don't know what the reaction will be. Aura is very strong and so it mentions burqa... so? Big Whoop its for a few seconds. Getting offended on other people's behalf and ignoring potentially great hits for great songs... Little Monsters: Playing it safe and running away from good music since 2011. Aura annoys me because its reference was made on purpose by her to ruffle some feathers because obviously it would regardless of how often in the song she literally says the word burqa (lets also not ignore that she most likely would wear one during its promotion or in the video). The fact that the songs overall point could be gotten across completely without the reference to the burqa makes it an avoidable and honestly a pointless controversy. Wheres the merit in ruffling feathers over this? Not to mention that the song was critically panned anyway. I think her delivery in the song is cool, I like the chorus, but at the end of the day the fact that it would tarnish her reputation even further over something thats so pointless makes it a dumb choice for a single. That not playing it safe its playing it smart. Now if she made a song that was controversial but conceived with some intelligent intentions and touched on something that could strike a chord in people (like Born This Way for instance, even though I didn't personally like the song itself), than to me thats a controversy with some merit. No. Any controversy is implied by fans and not the song at all. The song is self defending anyway, basically saying "I wear a burqa for fun and because of a passion for fashion. Aren't I allowed? Why? Do you want me naked instead?". Then again, most people aren't intelligent enough for that. I had to listen to someone say "lady gaga does crazy stuff for no reason, she doesn't have a political message or agenda" so yeah. in that light, maybe releasing a bland and repetitive, lyrically boring song like s-x dreams is best. "making love in my s-x dreams *synth hit* *synth hit* x 100.

Whether or not I personally give a **** about cultural appropriation or matters of social justice (which I really don't), I do take notice when her song is perceived negatively because of it and therefore think its release isn't worth the drama. As I said already which you conveniently ignored, the song was received negatively by a handful of critics for reasons that have nothing to even do with the burqa reference anyway. They thought it was messy and convoluted. The song is just alright, its not worth the drama. You act like its the best thing shes released since Bad Romance. And im also sorry that if her music isn't jampacked with convolution you think its basic. I take it you're the same kind of fan that holds their nose up at Just Dance or Telephone. So Sex Dreams doesn't have controversial aspirations, its a good sleek pop song with s-xual innuendo and an infectious snyth. That makes it bad? Its too conventional to you? Thats so snobbish and narrow minded.
MonsterVSAnimal 0
I don't get why everyone likes Sex Dreams soo much. Like, it's good, I guess. But I would say Aura, ARTPOP & MANiCURE are better.
kupo 201
Not here for the implication that Sex Dreams is bad just because it's lyrically blunt and simple. The production--at least what was featured at Swinefest--seemed like some of her most intricate, and her vocals were quite experimental, too. It's a very clever song. I like Aura quite a bit. But it's an AWFUL single choice, if we're looking at singles from the perspective of marketing tools. It wasn't received well (again, this coming from someone who genuinely likes it, and thinks its infinitely superior to the better reviewed Applause), and the controversy--whether warranted or not--WILL follow her. I actually think Aura is an example of a really knowing and smart cultural appropriation, but that won't save her. She'll still be taken to task for it. Of all the songs played at Swinefest, it would be the worst choice for a single.
badboymonsterx 523
but what if there's another song that is single worthy that we haven't heard yet though

As for thinking s-x dreams won't bring controversial responses... uh what? It's called s-x dreams. Get a grip. My problem is it has no energy and doesn't go anywhere. it sits there in mediocrity just bubbling away until finish. its boring. I just tried to watch the iTunes festival again and the only songs I watched more than once were aura, Swine, ARTPOP and MANiCURE. Don't turn my comments into some petty little argument where you assume things about me, it makes you look like a complete imbecile.

I adore Sex Dreams, but I agree that it doesn't stand up to other songs we've heard. As far as sound goes, I absolutely LOVE ARTPOP and would love to have that as a single, although I know it probably wouldn't do well. I love MANiCURE in that rock version, but Swine is killer and the meaning gives me chills. (I voted for Swine, tbh) >s-x >2013 i don't see the problem I think most of the controversy will be from people saying she's just making a basic s-x-related song. Like Rihanna's 'S&M' or Britney's '3.' And there are still a lot of people that get off on bashing others for their s-xual promiscuity, so there'd be the crowd calling her slutty and whatnot. ( ignorance) But anyways, all things considered, it wouldn't be THAT controversial because artists nowadays have been getting away with even more s-xual lyrics. (Bruno's Gorilla, anyone?) SIRE 75
You guys literally haven't even heard the rest of the album. Sex Dreams, Swine, MANiCURE, and Aura are all great, but there could be new songs miles better than these four that we haven't even heard yet. It's way too early to be fighting over this

Schimeon 0
Aura's demo version isn't even the official sound, it will be better than the demo version with more improved sounds. So they basically have NO idea how it sounds like, they are stupid. :(
