With that said, she's clearly bothered by the way things are going.

The only thing that bothers me is that she seems to lumps all criticism into the same category, and perceives all of it as a being a desire to write her off. Rather than taking a minute to even consider that Applause shouldn't have been the first single, or that maybe people genuinely aren't feeling it, she instead masks that possibility with this narrative that it's due to society wanting to see her fail, when the reality is that this extreme sentiment is confined to a few forums on the internet. Regular people don't think about this at all, they just want good music, that's it.

The irony is that if she does fail, or under-perform, or whatever, it's solely due to her and her team being to dense to consider that maybe, just maybe, some of the critics raise valid points. This (false) attitude they possess of everyone being against her is why they don't learn from their mistakes.

She's her own worst enemy.

I agree with ALL of this.

Gaga started this "them against me" back during Born This Way when she was interviewed on CNN with Anderson Cooper and it is forever annoying. It's like Gaga thinks that the only way that it could be that people aren't approving of her entertainment, is that everyone is just awaiting her downfall. She takes none of the blame, it's "Them".  I can't stand this attitude when she pulls it.

All the public wants is good songs, if the songs aren't there, maybe next time!

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

On the other hand, I relate to Applause. :whitney:

*talks about stans who travel the world to meet Gaga* When you talk about your fans, who do you mean? "I mean everybody. I mean anyone that's watching."

:flutter:

Gaga, just don't listen to what the people say. You will always have us :)

I can't believe how many fans are impressionable by charts and chart success. Calling Applause a flop because it hasn't reached number one or because it's not selling or being played as much as roar.

Now suppose ARTPOP will not sell great, or even sell less than BTW, what will you say? ARTPOP is not good even though you will be secretly repeating it on your players?

Do you think s-x dreams or aura or swine or MANiCURE or the title track would have done better as lead singles. NO. The reality is that the GP doesn't get Gaga anymore because she changed direction...did Katy? no. Did Britney? no. Did Riri? no. Heck even Madonna took 15 years to change direction. Gaga changed direction in a way that didn't please the GP and many of her fans. Some might say that's her biggest mistake; others would say she's reinventing herself. Some might even wonder whether she's planning her own decay. Whatever it is, it is her choice. Some of us still enjoy what she has to offer. And for f uck'sa sake bicthes don't kill our vibe. If you're neither happy with Applause nor with the direction she's leaving, just leave. You won't be missed.

She actually seems to be moving in a more logical direction, back to where she was prior BTW era, as the writer suggests. And I agree.

I think Gaga holds herself to standards that are too high. Not that she can't reach them, but she set her own bar so high, she feels like she failed when her singles don't shoot straight to #1.

I'll admit I didn't immediately like Applause, but after a couple listens, I love it, and always turn up the radio in my car when it comes on. But I have noticed my local DJs aren't spinning Applause nearly as much as they've always spun her other singles. Her singles have always been immediately put into regular rotation shortly after their release.

Maybe it boils down to Applause not being a good choice for a FIRST single. Sounds like she wasn't given too much of a say about what the first single would be, since Jimmy ended up picking it.
