Bellatrix 34,639
‘I wanted to sell based on the record not just one single. I’m not a singles artist, I never have been. I’ve always made complete, full albums.’ This basically. This is what I have been saying for the longest time. You know there is a reason why Gaga has been dropping info about ARTPOP and not Applause for so long and there is a reason why she just performed all new singles for her newest album. Due to her demographic she is mainly an album seller and tourer not a singles artist.
Mariann 301
So she is aware that her fans are calling Applause a flop. So sad.
emiher 2
Applause isn't a flop though.... It's sales may not be enough to top Blurred Lines and Roar (for right now)... But it's definitely not a flop....

superman 32
She was a singles + albums artist during The Fame era though eeerm she has less number ones in singles than many artists .gaga is proven to sell better in albums and tours.not now (we havent seen ARTPOP sales yet )but her previous albums sold better than her singles

Unicorn De Milo 4
So she is aware that her fans are calling Applause a flop. So sad. Samuel 3
Yay! She's saved the best for the album! Good. We got Scheiße, Bloody Mary + Heavy Metal Lover when BTW dropped so I have no doubt the meatiest part of ARTPOP is still very much under wraps. Not to say I don't like what we have already, but I'm just pumped for what's still to come. And it does irritate me a little when she says she doesn't care about success. She clearly does and It just makes her sound defensive. But what she said WAS true, judging a song based on it's charts success is ****ing stupid. craig 680
She was a singles + albums artist during The Fame era tho Two miserable #1 on US Hot 100 - that's nothing compared to Katy or Rihanna's best eras. She could discounted Bad Romance for a Katy type #1 is she's prioritized that. Even back in early 2009, she made a point of playing sets of 4 or 5 songs. bumblebee 2,528
She was also a singles artist with TF and TFM and she could have been with BTW also with the right singles, helping her album sales also. Actually, that's a bit incorrect. It seems to be so from the perspective of the time moment we're in now. But when JUST DANCE and POKER FACE were literally tearing the radio and cracking all the imaginable digital sales records, THE FAME was selling pretty slowly and poorly comparing to the rocket success of two singles. It wasn't actually untill she got 5 grammy nominations and released BAD ROMANCE video +THE FAME MONSTER that her album sales started to catch-up with the singles sales. But undeniably, once she started to sell more albums: BAD ROMANCE stopped 1 million away from POKER FACE sales although BR is probably her biggest radio + viral hit. It's just that her first 6 singles reached the top of pop songs on billboard, and now the support of her "home" format isn't that strong, but we will see. EarnYourLeather 231
Out of all the songs she played last night, Applause was the weakest. The others were FLAWLESS, and they weren't even the fully produced versions. I can appreciate why they released applause though. I will just pretend that Jewels N' Drugs didn't happen.
