StrawberryBlond 14,217
I think her hip surgery is partly the reason why promotion for Applause has been very limited everywhere, not just the US. I think the VMAs, the iTunes festival and Good Morning America were the only live performance she did for the entire promotion, which is so unlike her, so I'm assuming that she was on doctor's orders to still take it easy for another few months to be on the safe side. It's a given that a Gaga lead single will chart well, even if it doesn't go to #1, so maybe it was a valid risk to take. I think she brought up something about her hip still healing in an interview recently, so it seems like this was the case. This cannot be the marketing strategy for the entire album and I'll imagine it'll be all systems go for single #2 especially considering the lackluster performance of Applause. The label know she'll have to make up for it and then some. I really think Polydor need to take matters into their own hands and just put her singles up for preorder like every other American artist is doing right now. Miley, Katy and Jason all got #1 singles out of this and are still going strong despite all those weeks of preorders accumulating into one week. And none of them were massive forces in the UK, single wise, outwith Katy's unstoppable habit of making all her lead singles #1 here. I know it goes against Gaga's wishes, but sometimes, sacrifices must be made to get far in the business. She's going to have a lack of iconic hits if she keeps on with this on air/on sale thing because her sales will be gradual and to be noticed requires an avalanche of first and second week sales. I don't want to see her become a laughing stock in the UK because she can't get #1 hits anymore when everyone else gets them so easily. It's all so unfair. Why should the fans be deprived of seeing their fave be a success even though they're perfectly capable of doing so? It's good judgement to put singles up for preorder in regions where an artist struggles. Polydor should realise that Gaga is massively struggling to get #1's in the UK for the second album running and it would be ideal for her to get at least one UK #1 per album if she wants to remain successful. Pre-ordering's the smartest move. Provided that the release isn't like, a month after the US or something.
Smithy 2,268
They should discount applause now too tbh, while it's still got some airplay Also, Cher & Ellie Goulding are performing on XF first live show
GagaMyBlood95 9,899
She needs to put single two up for preorder two weeks prior to it's release, send it to radio, then release it the sunday of her X Factor performance (assuming that that's before the album release) That is a GREAT plan! I hope she does that!
