Closing it would be a risk because it's already late night and the people might have shut their TVs off. Middle performance is just for the lessers. The hype in the preshow and all week on MTV will focus on the opening act more than any other... Gaga isn't nominated for anything, getting the audience shots of her would be a killjoy for the performance anticipation IMO. The later you are, the fewer viewers have hung around to see you. Gaga will set the bar so high with her performance, it'll make the others look lame tbh! You're all right! People tend not to watch the whole thing, it gets late, the noms this year are boring and lame, the VMA's ratings have crashed dramatically, so it's better that Gaga does her performance first, so the grand majority will already see it for sure!
