5 ? I'm happy for her, that's a great number.

And the single is pretty cool ! I think the sales will be similar as Yoü and I or Marry The Night/LoveGame...

#5 isn't THAT impressive. Born This Way was released on the friday yet in debuted at #3 on the Sunday. Applause has had nearly a full weeks worth of sales (it only missed out on Monday) but has debuted two places lower. I also wouldn't expect the music video to make much difference. Born This Way remained at #3 even when it had a full weeks worth of sales behind it and the music video a couple of weeks later.

The fact that a brand new Lady Gaga single has only just scrapped into the top 5 is pretty disappointing, especially since she's a) had a front page banner on iTunes since Tuesday b) she's been tweeting fans non-stop to buy it c) the chart battle with Katy Perry has been heavily reported in the UK press. It's not like the British public aren't aware she has a new single out. The Born This Way era has really harmed her in the UK. It's going to be laughable if she fails to pull a #1 single off this album in the UK.

I would bet good money that Katy Perry will debut at #1 with Roar in September.

Wait, so Ellie and Gaga released their songs at the same time, but Ellie got the #1 and Gaga got #5?

Ok.

Hope the video does something.

Ellie's song was released to radio a month in advance, the song was huge by the time it was available to buy. Applause came out of nowhere, basically.

#5 is not bad, we'll see how big the video effect will be, if everything goes well and she gets some airplay, she can secure herself a top 5 position for next week, too.

i don't think that the on-air thing works so well in the UK. but Applause will sustain sales rather than just fall off

The video helped BTW CONSIDERABLY in the UK, the Judas video also helped sales stabilise and got her back into the top 10 for three weeks. I remember the day it debuted on the charts, it was number one in the mid weeks but fell to #3 by Sunday, it just kept dropping and dropping on iTunes, UNTIL the video came out, it managed to stay in the top 10 for 6 weeks... LARGELY because of that video.

And Roar doesn't sound like something the UK is going to pick up. Radio 1 threw it on their C list earlier in the week, so it's not going to get a lot of airplay up until September... I can see it having a similar performance to POM.

And if you intention is just to spread negativity here, well you can just leave thanks. :)

Freddy

it debuted at #5 when it was #51 on airplay.

All the singles in the top 5 had at LEAST one month of airplay
