Radio was more open to uptempo dance-pop at the time, the average radio listener is much more receptive to Rihanna than Gaga, and, to be frank, WFL is just a better song than Applause. We can only hope that Gaga's video does for her what Riri's video did for WFL. If WFL would have flopped, you wod have said that WFL is a bad song like Applause. You being very pessimistic here.
