They can proceed to the 2nd single. Not trying to be negative btw, just expecting d worst-case scenario. They can't proceed to the second single 3 weeks after the LEAD single is released. As much as I hate saying this, but I'm now seriously having reservations about Applause ever reaching the top spot of the HOT 100 - regardless of how elaborate and extensive the promo is. The music video would surely help Applause, but Roar's getting its own music video as well. The VMAs would surely boost her sales, but so will Katy Perry and even Robin Thicke. The competition is just stiff. I can only hope that Applause will be able to peak at #2 eventually. Beyond that would be a real surprise to me.
