Gaga can't play it safe forever, and Applause is definitely safe, but for good reason. If a song like Aura gets huge streaming and shoots to #1 because of it, the fact that it's #1 may overshadow the fact that it's getting backlash. That might be a chance worth taking.

 

On the other hand, people love s-x (why else is WB getting insane amounts of views?). Sex Dreams could essentially do the same thing with more tasteful controversy. It may not get huge airplay, but it's streaming could be huge enough to make it go #1.

I'd much rather have her succeed controversially with Sex Dreams too, just to save herself some media hate.

So we should choose anothet Zedd track then. But yeah, I bet the chorus was more on Zedd's part. The catchiness of it is undeniable.

The thing that SUCKS is that Gaga's peak on streaming (obviously first week of vid release), peak on radio, and peak in sales will probably never coincide in one week to let her have one huge dominating week.
Gaga's singles just don't work out perfectly like that like Katy's.

I think it's too early right now to say whether or not she has radio strength this era. The radio updates the week after the VMAs were terrible, yes, but you can sort of understand it given the fact that the song almost fell out of the top 10 after its initial release and again after the video release well, I think there was some hesitation about whether people were going to actually start picking it up or whether it was going to start fading again a few days after the VMAs, but it remained strong digitally and radio began supporting it in a big way.
