A Stan Was Born

I have to ask: did Suit and Tie and Locked out of Heaven follow a similar growth path on radio?

Locked Out of Heaven, Diamonds, and Suit & Tie I think will all end up being very comparable to Applause. All three has mediocre debuts, were growers, and led to good album sales. Unapologetic gave Rihanna her best debut ever and the other two albums did very well.

It's better for ARTPOP's lead single to be something like Applause that people won't tire of quickly. Just think... If you get bored with something then you lose excitement/hype for the album. With a song that's a grower, your interest is sustained and you're more likely to buy the album. I believe that's what happened with Unapologetic, The 20/20 Experience, and Unorthodox Jukebox.

Okay my 2 cents are over :derpga:

Your 2 cents are perfect

I agree. Though Bruno and Rih had to fight for those big hits with a bit of promotion. Probably why those songs went number one, though, and Suit and Tie didn't.

I think the bulk of the reason was due to radio airplay. I think airplay is not a good guage of popularity, but it can sometimes be a good guage on how old a song gets with its listeners.

Agreed with everything.

And Applause doesn't need to connect. People didn't buy and love Just Dance, Poker Face, Paparazzi, Telephone, Alejandro, Edge of Glory, etc. because they connected with them. They bought them because their good songs.

Exactly... And if people can't understand what she's saying or what she means, they can make up their own lyrics or meanings. I do that all the time when I'm clueless about a song :ohwell:

Yes, jhonyguy04... All you need to know is that any anxiety you have is pointless. ARTPOP will exceed your expectations

@whiteboi 1.5M is horrible for lead single. God knows I look at HIAM with shame seeing as it's probably the lowest selling #1 single since 2007 or around there. DREADFUL.

#10 on radio is exceptional. I remember 4 Minutes peaked at #11 on Radio but still sold 3M and peaked in the top 3 so as long as the sales are good, I don't mind radio too much.

Wait did BOTH TTWE and IWG outsell HIAM or just TTWE?

Both

Exactly. Like, it ****ing opened with 411K and went on to sell just 1.5M. I was just baffled, really. The public did NOT use.

Good thing TTWE was rush released. :emma:
