Is there any way to get an idea of a song's global itunes sales? Not really. Usually we only get WW sales at the end of the year if I'm not mistaken :P Isn't it the reason that song became a hit? Doesn't look like that's the case If someone pre-orders the album that includes the sale of the single, that single sale is not reflected on the iTunes chart. Predictions were made (based on the itunes chart) that Applause would debut with about 225k. That is before any pre-order sales were taken into consideration. The 218K number we got proves that the pre-order sales were not taken into consideration on the Billboard Digital Chart, but apparently it has been posted on ATRL that those pre-order sales are included in the Hot 100 chart.
