Applause didn't actually have to grow on me. It was a bop from the first time I heard it

Well, I see the single is off to a good start. 218K is a solid amount! Good debut sales and a good position.

So close to Top 5, though.

Ah well, I bet she'll rise into the Top 5 next week, MAYBE top 3 if things go really well.

Oh, and I was right that it would debut between #6-#8 :teehee:

I still think that it's very funny how no one thought Katy would be a threat to Gaga's lead-single, besides chris. :dies: After hearing for the first time Roar I thought it's gonna underperform, tbh. It doesn't show any evolution from her past music, but it smashes. I guess that it's the fact that this song is so generic that you literally cannot dislike it. Very interesting...

I actually think Roar is a step back from Teenage Dream, lol. Everything about it is generic - the beat, the production, the lyrics, the message. It's all been done to death in the past few years. But apparently, it's exactly what the GP want to hear.

I'm hoping the rolling effect is about over so we can get back to those big radio updates tomorrow.

Agreed. Now I think that Hair could've done great if it was released in the end. lol

Applause should be able to rise to #4 next week, based on streaming and sales (and higher airplay).

I just don't get it... Katy played the dramaqueen saying she was over the 'sweet music' then she comes up with that plain song that looks more like a TD b-side and everybody buys it  :smh:

Someone on Pulse Music forums calculated the chart points with an estimated formula of the hot 100:

1. Robin Thicke ft. T.I. & Pharrell - Blurred Lines (291/12 - 228.9/7.5 - 6600/450): 69.43666667 chart points
2. Katy Perry - Roar (557/12 - 63/7.5 - 3800/450): 63.26111111 chart points
3. Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop (148/12 - 51/7.5 - 6900/450): 34.46666667 chart points
4. Imagine Dragons - Radioactive (121/12 - 119/7.5 - streaming is anywhere between 0 and 1,695,000 to maintain #4 position): 30.52222223 - 34.46666666 chart points
5. Jay-Z ft. Justin Timberlake - Holy Grail (178/12 - 71/7.5 - 2800/450): 30.52222222 chart points
6. Lady Gaga - Applause (218/12 - 31/7.5 - 2900/450): 28.74444444 chart points

#3-6 aren't that far off but there's a huge gap between #3 and #2. I think #3 is the most realistic peak for Applause at this point.

Pure Adrenaline

wtf is happening with Applause....was that the effect the video had 2 day in the top 5 idk right what will happen with this song....some miracle has to happen and I'm starting to fear that the VMA's wont have such a big push on that song  :awkney:

and again GAGA & Jimmy W.T.A.F. how could u choose a song that wasn't even going to make the final cut for lead single after 2 years of no new material ..... let's just pray that something will happen to make the song hit  :wtf:

It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely

Also, Katy and Britney will ALSO go head-to-head on Sep. 17 with Britney releasing a new lead single and Katy releasing a new PROMO single for Prism.

Place your bets!

I say that Katy will do around 150K-200K and Britney around 250K-300K if everything goes smoothly.

At No. 3 is the second debut of the week: Lady Gaga arrives with "Applause." It sold 218,000 downloads in its opening frame and marks her 13th top 10 hit on the Digital Songs chart. It's her best sales week since "The Edge of Glory" debuted with 266,000 downloads at No. 2 on the May 28, 2011, chart.

That's actually a fairer comparison than BTW vs Applause. (not much promo.)

Suggests a decline of about 20%.

Wait, this is her THIRTEENTH debut in the HDS Top 10 but she only has released 12 singles and only 11 [including Applause] have made it to the Top 10 on HDS so what are the other 2? :duck:
