thanks for calling me a loser :noparty:

Its symbolic of an entire country though. People are always proud to be from X country. Although it may just be a sheet of cotton, to people it may symbolize so much more. The flag represents a history and a culture.
What if someone were to burn down a house? It doesn't have feelings. You're still burning someone's home. It can't be disrespected. A flag is a representation of a home in a way.

Although it shouldn't be a crime, it is rather disrespectful to brush it off the stage like that. At the BTWB, Gaga held it up and gave it to a dancer to take it off stage. That's respectful to one's culture. Although you may not take offense, many do.

:fail:

yeah but if you isolate the context like that it appears disrespectful but it's not quite what happened.

"burning a flag is disrespectful", yeah ok but if instructions on how to make a nuclear bomb were written on a flag i don't think disrespectful is what you'd call burning it.

it blows my mind how people think that scrunching a flag up into a ball and throwing it at another human being while they're busy doing their job is completely okay and not even worthy of being mentioned, but when that person sweeps it away, possibly without actually knowing what it is, after having it THROWN at them no less, they're the disrespectful one.  it's the weirdest double standard and i don't believe you've thought about it for more than a second after seeing "justin bieber" in the title.

what would've been the correct way to treat it?  lift it off the ground at which some argentinian carelessly threw it, wave it above his head and then throw if off stage so as not to hurt the poor flag's feelings?  would anyone have cared if it were one of his security guards who quickly pulled it off stage before he could see it?  this whole thing is ridiculously petty and i don't think people should support institutionalised pettiness which is what this whole flag sanctity business is based on.

agreed with everything.

Mister G

I feel like burning the flag warrents arrest and incarceration for 4 years. But brushing it off the floor may be a fine or couple weeks.

But why would anyone do that to any country's flag? That's really disrespectful.

The same thing happened to Madonna in Puerto Rico.back in 1993 when she rubbed the flag between her legs.

the flag was obviously thrown as a welcoming offer in order to welcome him to the country.. gaga was thrown an argentinian soccer jersey and she put it on, not swiped it across the ground and took it off stage. its disrespectful, point blank period

Exactly!

He won't be put into jail

I'm Argentinian and I think that it was far worse that he canceled the show after a few songs because he was feeling ill after partying the night before than to wipe the flag tbh but IT IS disrespectful to the country and culture he's visiting. At least pretend you respect the country for five seconds, we don't ask much

So am I lol which is part of the reason why I'm so mad but anyone would be mad if they wiped their home country's flag on the ground like it was some meaningless rag
