Jesse Pinkman 4,660
To the above post. Just because you SELL doesn't mean that you have to care about the money that you make. Yes Gaga wants to be a popstar and yes that is her dream. But had she not became a popstar she'd probably still be making music. You don't make music just to sell. That's false and faulty. Clearly it is a job, it takes a lot of work. But when you take the fun out of the music, you don't really have anything to put worth into your music. It is not about the sales, it is not about the money you make. Those are bonuses to doing what you love. None of you b---hes work a job that you "LOVE" just because you get paid for it. And if you didn't get paid for your job you'd be doing something else to support your hobby. Get over it, she's a huge pop artist, but that doesn't mean that because her label hypes her music, and that because she charts high that she has to somehow be a greedy b---h snob who only cares about the charts. She's very in tune with her fans. I agree with you to a certain extent, but I think what you & others have to realize is that the music industry is about making money. With Gaga being signed to a major record label, she is apart of that money making process & she knows this. So..yes how successful her music is, is an important factor to her as a label artist. It's science, bitch
Michael 533
Not sure if true, but it hyped me https://twitter.com/brianbenarivo/status/357142628728446976
JoshuaMonroe 0
Ok, even if she doesn't care about sales, do you really think Interscope doesn't care about how it sells? That's pretty naive of you. The thing is, if you put yourself in the skin of an artist, the only thing they want is have enough money to live normally and create their art without any financial concern. Gaga makes $90 million+ a year, which is more than enough to fund 90 lives. She has ENOUGH money. I think the only one concerned about sales is the label. This whole thing is about the artistic journey. Pop fans can't seem to grasp that concept. Do you think rock fans care about whether or not their band outsells their competitors? No. It's the guitar riffs, the lyrics, the live performances etc. that count. For something to be iconic, it has to get you at a different level than the materialistic dimension we've been throwing pop culture in these past decades. It's time people understood that the fundament of ARTPOP is ART. The ARTIST is the master of this era, the money is but the vehicle. Don't be blinded. The only thing an artist truly cares about is their music reaching their fans and touching them to make an impact. That is the true goal of an artist, to incite a reaction of some kind. Her job isn't to sell, that's the labels job. The label makes her sell. I'm sure she enjoys the money, but in reality most of her money goes right back into the music. Which in fact could leave her broke, if she couldn't make it back up. Not everything is about sales, and I'm sure the label wants her to sell well. But she's already on track to sell, what's there to care about? LOL Do you think Gaga does marketing campaigns? That's her labels job once again. A successful pop star does none of that. Clearly the hype comes from them, but that's just to get you excited and willing to listen and stay tuned. THIS.

I realize that, but that in part is really the labels job. What I'm trying to say is do you know how many people make music to sell? And they don't? But yet they continue making music, why? Because they love to do it. Yes blah blah the industry is about making money. But that's the industry not her. "Lady Gaga" is a marketing tool, for her music to be heard. There are plenty of artist who have labels and yet they don't sell nearly as well as Gaga. Some of them work really hard and aren't even promoted in the slightest bit. Eventually some of them are dropped, but they still continue to make music. It may not be just another hobby for them, but it's definitely something that they love to do. @Americano I'm exaggerating. beaster 0
I don't think anyone is debating that money isn't important. But what I think people are trying to say here is that Gagas writing and creative process was not primarily concerned with commerciality. She's gone out of her way to do something new and different which in turn will rake in sales and airplay.
GagaSkeletonWay 2,080
We all know that sales are not her 1st goal but it matters, and it matters a lot. She needs money, even if she spend it all again in music videos, outfits, performances or tours, she needs it, and she needs to be successful. Most artist only want enough money to continue to create good music. Hell even Gaga on a low budget back in The Fame days made the music we all love today. She has come from not much to where she is now. The music videos, the outfits, and the tour sets are just the many great things that are a result of her sales. JoshuaMonroe 0
I can see a Zedd/Madeon collaboration happen for the first single. Let's not forget Garibay is probably gonna be on ARTPOP. How about Dance in The Dark's little sister as a 4th single?

I think she's just going to let the music talk this era. Which is a good thing. She'll probably post the single cover as her twitter picture to release it, since she hasn't put the promo pic as her picture.
