 It's okay, I used to think people complaining about cultural appropriation were extreme "social justice" warriors until I actually saw what it meant and why it could be hurtful. Most people on Tumblr don't really know how to explain concepts and would rather get angry at people. Cultural appropriation is real, but nobody's done a really good job of explaining it. Basically, it's taking something that belongs to another culture and removing its significance. For example, wearing the Native headdress when you haven't earned it is ignoring what it means to the people in Native culture. It also works for religion. If something is sacred in another culture, using it as a fashion item is ignoring the fact that it's important to people. If you're interested, I can send you a very good Tumblr that explains cultural appropriation a lot better.

okay that makes sense. I always thought that was what it meant but I just never understood why certain things were important to the culture they're from, so it didn't seem bad to me. Since you told me about the headdresses I'll assume there's a good reason behind stuff that I just need to look up next time I see some social justice warrior on tumblr hahaha.

I wasnt on the forums for the release of Born This Way so I'm not sure about this, but if the single leaks before 8/19 will it be posted here? Cos I wanna try and avoid leaks this era, but I wanna keep reading this thread lol

Gentle word of advice:

 

You don't need to capitalize the first letter of every word you write.

It can be confusing to the reader. Just capitalize names and places, and selfdesignations.

i hope it doesn't leak, when btw leaked i didn't listen and as hard as it will be ill be doing the same for ARTPOP

 

 

"Born This Way" as a single -- never leaked. As the Anderson Cooper special detailed, it was kept literally under lock and key.

 

"Born This Way" as an album leaked about 6 days before it was scheduled, because of a special broadcast/stream in the United Kingdom, if I recall correctly.

I highly highly doubt it will leak. Even if it did, there's no gaurantee some wellmeaning yahoo won't post it. But I would dissuade them from doing it as the legal ramifications are high.

So obvi the era has begun, but im wondering when she'll start promo cause tbh she doesnt have THAT much time before the single release.. Like i dont think the GP is really counting down to the 19th so she basically is going to have to pop up somewhere or say something in the next 3 weeks im estimating/hoping. unless she's planning on going right back into troll land until then. *sigh*

I'm kind of surprised this thread only has 78 pages. I was expecting everyone to go rabid with hype and cool theories when the release dates where revealed.

 

It's an odd feeling, knowing that there's a set release date and every day that passes is a day closer to hearing the single. It's a great feeling, but after not knowing for so long.. I'm still getting my head around the fact that there's a single coming next month.
