Not really, because all the "freeze" does is halt the AI growth of songs for a week or so. If the song was selling better, it would have continued to grow into 2012. But it wasn't, and thus it didn't.

The main reason it didn't do so well was because she had four other singles on the radio in the 7-8 months leading up to its release.

Plenty of songs have been released at the same time as "MTN" and went on to be smash hits.

All good points, but, inversely, if the song had continued to grow on radio, then it would have likely also started to sell better. But hey, that's all in the past, so what's the point in debating it any further?

That's something that needs to be avoided with AP. Singles wise the era lasted 9 months (Feb. 2011 - Nov. 2011) with 5 single smushed into it.  By the time MTN was pulled from radio, the BTW era was not even a year old. I hope she can extend this era. That doesn't necessarily mean more singles, but she can do 5 singles in like 16 months.

Problem was that Interscope made very bad decisions. They thought "Judas" would be a quick hit even though it's a very harsh-sounding song with controversial lyrics. When Gaga didn't want to release dual singles after "TEOG", they picked "Y&I" even though a dance song (I'm guessing "Scheisse" was the other song?) would have done well both stateside and internationally.

Hopefully ARTPOP's lead single will peak close to the album release so that the label can look at which songs sell the most to pick the second single.

Very good predictions! Except for Rihanna. :lmao:

Well, right now she doesn't seem to be able to do over 500K like she did in 2008.

Her opening week sales are:

BOMT [released in January]: 125K

Oops! [released in May]: 1.3M.

Britney [released in Nov.]: 745K or around there.

ITZ [released in Nov]: 600K+

Greatest Hits: My Prerogative [released in Nov]: 255K+

Blackout [released in October]: 290K

Circus [released in Dec.]: 505K.

FF [released in March]: 275K.

FF was predicted to do over 300K in the spring. Predictions decreased after she did promotional performances which were received very poorly both by fans and the GP, which hindered the albums first week sales. Circus benefited from the fact that she was actually in shape and the promotional performances were a significant improvement from her previous televised performance at the 2007 VMA's, so people ate it up.

This time around, I think the performances will actually be good! If that is the case, along with a possible Target deal, then I predict 300K-400K or, a smaller margin would be 350K-400K. This is also assuming the first single does well and adds to the hype machine around her album releases.

I know, I just hope that people will get tired of her yearly releases :emma:

I hope you are right! She's been around for quite some while and has been in the spotlight for months (thanks to X Factor and the breathtaking Smurfs soundtrack).

On the other hand people already know that she has overcome her controversial years and that she can stand on her own two feets. I doubt that she'll ever see such a strong boost, like in the Circus-era, again.

However, her presence on X Factor might affect her sales positively! So excited, tbh! :excited2:

JT's part II lead single release has become such a non-event on this site due to all the ARTPOP news :lmao:

.

The song was just so boring IMO.

I find it less boring than Suit & Tie, but I had lower expectations this time around. It has that 70's disco funk sound that everyone seems to love right now.

I like it, but I'm surprised that it's not selling faster.

imo,

"Mirrors" > "Take Back the Night" > "Suit & Tie"

I agree with your order :tea:

It's a pre-order track, and those tend to not look like they're peaking very high since the actual album pre-order sales aren't reflected on its iTunes position (which do count toward the single sales).

pre-orders actually do count toward the single chart because you don't get charged for the rest of the album price until the album is actually released.

The iTunes chart or Billboard? Basically all we see on iTunes are the people that are buying the single and not pre-ordering the album, but the album pre-orders count as well.

I learned this with Give Me All Your Luvin'. It appeared to never enter the top 10, but in reality it actually did.

ARTPOP's being covered on USA Today. A national newspaper is reporting on an ANNOUNCEMENT. The thirst is real.

iTunes and Billboard.

"GMAYL" hit #2 on iTunes, didn't it?
