Why does everybody hate on Lorde? :awkney:

Please, read and understand her interviews, then you may be able to talk :awkney:

She's not looking for an argument? She's never actually shaded anyone. Everything she's said have been criticisms of the industry. She's praised pretty much every artist that she's apparently "shaded," but people only pay attention to the part where she uses their work as examples to point out what she dislikes about the industry and twists it to make it seem like a personal attack.

I don't get how she can praise Nicki but not Lana Del Rey... unless she has and I don't know it.

She praised Nicki for this video.

As for Lana

Aha. I wish she'd have been a little more vocal about that at least, because all I read was her views on feminism. And Lana's songs are ****ing awesome as well. :P But I guess I'm nitpicking. I just don't get why she says Lana might be a bad role model for young girls, when many could say the same of Nicki Minaj.

She didn't mean Lana personally. She was attempting to make a wider point about how women are represented in the media.

She quoted Lana's lyric and also criticised Selena's lyrics in Come and Get it saying she was "Sick of women being portrayed this way."

She wasn't trying to say that the feelings of Lana or Selena where illegitimate or unreal and she wasn't trying to say that they shouldn't write about such things. She later clarified and put into context what she was trying to say on Tumblr saying

"i think somewhere along the line also there was a misquote where people got the impression i thought writing about love was shameful. i don’t! i just haven’t found a way of doing it which is powerful and innovative, which is why i don’t."

I completely understand that, but I don't see how she can interpret some of Lana's lyrics, for example, as portraying an innapropriate image for young women, while Nicki and much of her very s-xually explicit lyrics could be interpreted as unhealthy too. I'm not saying she was de-legitimizing anyone, but it sounds a little double-standard-y. That's just my opinion, and she's entitled to hers.

Why is Lorde's opinion of these Artists praised so much? She's a 16 year old girl who's had 1 hit song

It should be about the music, not the artist

 literally nothing Lorde is saying is adding up. she's like contradicting herself at this point. she bashes taylor swift, lana, selena for not being feminist enough for her and saying how they depend on men but it's ok for nicki to call other females b---hes and ****tin on them and talking about playing with her *** (in the song High School, specifically) and is just downright nasty in her songs but THATS OK??? :miley:

Lorde stop being so hypocritical and make sense please!!!! i'm so sick of her shade. she needs to go away or just stop doing interviews tbh.

Nicki Minaj, the girl who....

Didn't have a top ten single worldwide until the sixth release from her debut album, (which was the only hit she ever had from that 8-single album)

Has only ever achieved one #1 single worldwide (Starships went to #1 in Guatamala)

Has only sold around 5 million albums worldwide

Has had tours that defined flopping

Has never won a Grammy

Has been accused of ripping of Lil Kim, Gaga, and other artists

Is constantly laughed at for her ridiculous costumes, OTT performances and songs in general

...is one of the most important females in pop? I respect people's opinions and all, but I there are some where I wonder how on earth they reached the conclusion that they did. Nicki will be forgotten about in a heartbeat when she releases her next album. Already she's old news. It feels like Roman Reloaded was released ages ago (even though its only been 1 1/2 years) and the re-release did not register with the public. She's only going to make things worse for herself if she continues pushing herself as a popstar because she doesn't have the success to be considered as such. She's not even one of the most important females in rap, never mind pop.

Well she's in pop, and maybe Lorde thinks she's the most important because she believes what she stands for and who she is needs to reflect more on society? At first I thought out of all people, why is Lorde praising Nicki Minaj? But I understand she probably sees something different in Nicki Minaj than I do, something probably much deeper than a lot of us can see.
