what is wrong with her expressing her opinions on music?  you guys are saying the same thing that people say about Gaga...which is that she should just shut up and stop talking so much about bullying, gay rights, etc.

people dont like it when girls talk about things like this...people think they should just sing and look pretty.

well she isnt personally attacking anyone, her attacks focus on the music.

Thank you for typing the whole quote out!

Feel like people already have this negative view of her after hearing she has shaded so many various artists and don't give her a chance and actually listen to what she has to say.

I agree with you @Lorde.  She has been misconstrued and misunderstood, so the fact that she is misunderstood so easily, she may need some marketing and public relations lessons, and a mega dose of emotional intelligence.  It's weird b/c it DOES sound like she's stepping on people's toes on first listen, but on reflection, you realize she is actually praising or defending them.

Well, at least Lorde is smart enough not to come after the Beyhive, LMs, Directioners and Beliebers.  It's death if you mess with these fanbases, LOL!

How did I miss this thread? This has to be my fave thing she's said so far and I agree. 100% and it's an example everyone else should follow. If only everyone said "**** no" to working with David Guetta, the world would be a better place. I'd hope this would be Gaga's reaction too if she's ever asked.

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn

Can somebody please make a "Lorde opinion database" and let it be pinned by a mod? Seriously losing orientation with all these threads. We need to manage this!

Nicki Minaj, the girl who....

Didn't have a top ten single worldwide until the sixth release from her debut album, (which was the only hit she ever had from that 8-single album)

Has only ever achieved one #1 single worldwide (Starships went to #1 in Guatamala)

Has only sold around 5 million albums worldwide

Has had tours that defined flopping

Has never won a Grammy

Has been accused of ripping of Lil Kim, Gaga, and other artists

Is constantly laughed at for her ridiculous costumes, OTT performances and songs in general

...is one of the most important females in pop? I respect people's opinions and all, but I there are some where I wonder how on earth they reached the conclusion that they did. Nicki will be forgotten about in a heartbeat when she releases her next album. Already she's old news. It feels like Roman Reloaded was released ages ago (even though its only been 1 1/2 years) and the re-release did not register with the public. She's only going to make things worse for herself if she continues pushing herself as a popstar because she doesn't have the success to be considered as such. She's not even one of the most important females in rap, never mind pop.

Preachy youngster.

Also I don't intend to be rude but I'm shocked how she looks in the video, thought she is prettier.

I can't with everyone here taking her words out of context :dead:

You guys have blinders on and are only focusing on a very narrow part of her interview. There isn't really any shade here at all.

In my opinion, Lorde is very articulate of her opinion and very outspoken about the music industry, which is very refreshing from someone who is just starting out with little bias due to inexperience.

You guys just love to jump on people and call out "shade" as fast as you can because you think all pop stars are in some sort of Hunger Games.

"sure! i think i cocked that up a bit and what i said wasn’t put in context also. what i meant was: there’s a lot of importance placed on physical perfection in this industry, and i wish my favourite stars didn’t look perfect because i think fans (me included) have these feelings of worthlessness, like they’ll never be as pretty/talented/whatever, as a result of this intense photoshop culture and the endless strive for perfection. ts was the first person i thought of, which i regret. she happens to be good looking, but i think she actually uses her other imperfections in an incredibly powerful and relatable way. taylor swift has a very unique vision, which i admire. i think somewhere along the line also there was a misquote where people got the impression i thought writing about love was shameful. i don’t! i just haven’t found a way of doing it which is powerful and innovative, which is why i don’t.

ps. i am very very new to this whole thing. i will probably never be the kind of role model for my fans that ts is for hers. i admire her very much for this reason. basically, this is an apology for not thinking too hard before i speak. peace."

I was trying to tell people she was talking from a more general perspective and not shading

Glad that she took the time to write this.
