Tommymonster44 0
I know, but there's so many more streaming sites. It'll be interesting to see the result of all of them being brought together. It doesn't need a chart, though. Artist's and their labels have access to their song's statistics, which is how their profit is calculated. Beyond that, no other compilation is required. The reason we have an iTunes chart and a radio chart is because radio DJ's wanted to know what's popular in order to judge what to play. Steaming is on a complete different level. Why do we need radio when we can stream any song we want, anytime, anywhere? If a charting system were to be developed, it would serve no professional purpose anyways.People can "stream" music on youtube...I don't think it's the future! You pay premium on spotify and then you have access to all artists. But I don't want to pay for artists I don't like... It's difficult to explain, but I'm going to try: You buy BTW on iTunes ---------> money goes to Gaga and her record label You stream BTW on Spotify --------> The money you paid for premium goes to Spotify and it's divided to all artist, even artists you don't like . Album sales won't be relevant anymore and ****ty singers will have benefits. The entire model is going to need an overhaul if it wants to survive. Album sales, which used to be the primary way money was made off of music (excluding shows), is down by over 60%.The price of Spotify is actually a pretty awesome deal. It's completely free on the computer, 100% of the time. To pay for streaming from your mobile devices, it costs 10 dollars a month. If you buy even one album a month, you're already saving money. The only debate is the fact that you don't actually "own" the music. If they were to raise prices, suddenly, to 40 dollars a month, all of "your" music is lost.
