Queen Gloria 3,434
 I just hope that all the mainstream success hasn't gone to their heads, dulling their edge. I was worried when they began allowing their songs to be sampled so freely by every Tom, Dick, and Harry. It was a bit of a sell-out moment, and then all the merchandise, which included deals with corporations like Coca-Cola. This album will be THE test. Working with the likes of Nile Rodgers and co. to get that 70s disco sound should create something memorable easily, and it looks like it's going to have a lot of tracks. They used old 1970s mics during the recording too! It's been said that there's only one sample of an existing song on the album, and it's the one in the clip we've heard ("We're up all night to get funky/lucky"). All other samples will have been recorded specifically for the album. Edited April 1, 2013 by CarrieMoonbeam

TheResidentZionist 128
dont get me wrong i am the biggest daft punk fan. it was my real introduction to electronic music way back in the 2000s( thats weird to say)they completely shaped the genre and influenced pretty much every EDM artist right now. but i hate to say it......... the new snippet sounds like something from their old albums. they have done enough in proving they can make funk music....we dont need more i want them to evolve and redefine the genre again...i feel like if they worked on more harder electronic music than funk they would excel Edited April 2, 2013 by iamlost481516
Introvert 0
dont get me wrong i am the biggest daft punk fan. it was my real introduction to electronic music way back in the 2000s( LOL thats weird to say)they completely shaped the genre and influenced pretty much every EDM artist right now. but i hate to say it......... the new snippet sounds like something from their old albums. they have done enough in proving they can make funk music....we dont need more i want them to evolve and redefine the genre again...i feel like if they worked on more harder electronic music than funk they would excel i kind of agree with you here to some extent. theres nothing exciting or surprising about what ive heard so far. its just like picking up right where they left off. i mean its good of course it is daft punk. but its not particularly exciting. Queen Gloria 3,434
They haven't really done straight up funk music before. They've done French House with funk influences (Discovery). This new album is sounding more like Jamiroquai which is exciting. It's not exactly the same as Discovery, it's a step forward to a more 80s P-Funk sound as opposed to the more 70s influence on Discovery. There are also going to be influences of pop/rock from the 80s (Phil Collins' "Easy Lover" has been referenced, they worked with the songwriter of that song). I'm assuming it's gonna sound more like a mix of Hall & Oates and Michael Jackson than a direct sequel to Discovery. But I wouldn't mind that They already released futuristic next level **** on the Tron Legacy soundtrack. And while that was great, that didn't really feel like Daft Punk to me. I'd say from the sounds of it the new album is more authentically them than anything they've done since Human After All. I don't think they're trying to outdo anyone, at this point in their career they could release a 15 minute loop of someone screaming and it would go to #1.
