Zombieboy should’ve been a single

After one listen of MAYHEM, it was one of the only songs I found memorable.

Every fan favorite from the album would have performed similar to Disease.

Yeah, but it's not really bad though. Disease still has over 360M streams on Spotify. If GoE, HBDUWM, or VIY were released as singles, they would've had at least 250-300M streams by now, adding further to MAYHEM total streams. Also considering the fact that VIY was getting over 1M daily streams during Coachella and Copacabana despite it being a non single, if it was realised as a single in April 2025 it could've even performed better than than Disease.

VIY did not stand a chance in the bedroom/minimalist pop and talk/whisper "singing" climate that is still prevalent today. Coachella and Copacabana gave it (and songs like GoE and HBDYWM) a boost for a few days but let's not delude ourselves and act like it would be able to sustain those numbers. Pushing a single requires a financial support from artist's label and if making any of the Mayhem tracks post release was profitable Interscope would've done that, but there was no need because DWAS was the gift that kept on giving and the songs they tested like Zombieboy on Tudum, VIY on Colbert or HBDYWM being sent to radio in select countries did not show the results they probably expected.

When LMs complain about the lack of singles from Mayhem I always wonder why do you want your favorite song to be a single. Do you want to hear it on the radio? Do you want to follow its performance on the charts? Or buy physical releases? Or you just want a MV because in this case we know a song doesn't need to be a single to get a MV (like it was with John Wayne and 911). Personally I only care about getting more MVs but they were a mixed bag since BTW era so even if my favorite song gets it I might end up being underwhelmed. Idk I’d rather get more frequent album releases then stretch out an era with unneeded post album singles.

May chaos take the world!

No I didn't complain. I'm very happy with how MAYHEM era turned out. But I'm just saying that if VIY was released as a single in April 2025 it would've surely outperformed its little boost during that Coachella season. It may have had Disease like numbers but overall it was still beneficial for the overall streams of MAYHEM.

Also let's not delude ourselves that Interscope doesn't have enough financial resources to do so, considering they didn't release even physical copies for Disease, Abracadabra, or TDD. Look at Katy Perry's 143, her label still supported her to release 3 proper singles despite all of them being horrible flops and they got nothing in return.

I just wanted at least one more single, at this point I don't even care which one, but I'm still a bit salty the album sticker mentioned Vanish Into You just to get our hopes up.

(I know those stickers don't mean anything but let me be salty)

Edit: And I don't care if they would flop or whatever. I just wanted some nice music videos.

It doesn’t work that way anymore. For the album to have another single it would have had to go viral on its own first. It should definitely have a video.

I love how Zombieboy balances spooky and sleazy, but I think it relies a bit too much on the latter to come off as a proper Halloween song (which the Dead Dance appears to have achieved instead).

I've heard it on many stores I've gone to so I think it would've done well as a single

not that I care about charts but labels kinda do lmao

I agree. Dead Dance just feels like an intro to the superior Zombieboy for me, and I think that would have performed better with GP. Coulda played off the “double feature” concept for horror even
