I remember in early career fron lime 2009 to 2012 kinda time she used to say a lot of stuff that was either contradicted or I didnt really believe tbh. Nothing massive which is why i cant remember specific examples off the top of my head now

But Gaga was also more performative and persona like at all times in her early career including off stage and seemed to be performing at all times even with statements and interviews or at least that was my impression

I like the new Gaga we got post 2013 as she slowly became more and more real and felt like herself more so imo

I feel like before she explained her artistic decisions and music making process a lot more and sometimes they were contradictory but i learned so much about her through that and i miss it

Her saying “I’m not a gay woman” when years earlier she declared that she had certainly had sexual relationships with women

Maybe she was referencing that she‘s not a lesbian (or not a homosexual woman) … which doesn‘t necessarily negate attraction to women, but just clarifying that she is not solely attracted to women … but I could be wrong, just going off of semantics really …

When she said she loved her show in Argentina and that she would come back... And never visited any other South America country again :motherofpuppies:

I think she means lesbian. She always said she was sexually attracted to women but never had romantic feelings for them, her exact phrasing in an interview in 2009 was “if you wanna say I’m bisexual, then I guess I’m bisexual” and she did also call herself bisexual multiple times in 2013.

I think criticism of her old persona and her current one are kind of overplayed atp anyway. Humans are naturally contradictory people, for example I say we shouldn’t trust straight people as queer people; but I have a straight female friend who’s been my best friend for like 20 years.

Her evolution has always been far more interesting to me because she evolves based on the people around her, where she goes, what she experiences and it shows in her music. It’s one of my critiques of people like Katy Perry or Taylor Swift that are so divorced from new experiences and people that their music has stalled in quality or growth since the mid 2010s. Gaga’a discography for me sounds like the age at which she made them.

The Fame feels immature (in a good way) and unaware of fame and the life she was chasing versus how aware and mature Mayhem is.

She did say she wasn’t fully part of the LGBTQ+ community, which was a weird statement

on drag race?

she just said she's not a gay woman and she's not FULLY part of that community, which is true

she also explains that it is a touchy subject, which is also true. if she's no longer feeling the same way about women, that's fine and very valid for her to say that she's not fully part of the LGBTQ+ community

sexuality is fluid, you don't declare you're gay and stay gay until death lol

she lives a mostly heteronormative lifestyle and has probably veered towards male partners as she got older because she's always wanted to start a family

i wouldn't call that a contradiction or a weird statement in any way, it's really normal for people to change as they grow  we should all afford each other the same space to grow, you never know who you'll be in 5 years time

The way she potrays herself in interviews now is so different from her earlier interviews. She's so quick to credit other people especially men for her work these days and I get being humble and giving due credit but girl stop lying you didn't figure out you could act cuz Bradley said so and you didn't learn how to write a pop song because of Michael.

I don't think she's doing it intentionally, i think it's a fallout from her PR brain from the early to mid 2010s, and the rise of trolling culture. Her idols publicly used to call her a copycat, her haters used to call her a copycat. Look at the viral clip from 2016 when she said her and Madonna are very different (meaning artists). She basically said she and Madonna are not the same; and she's right. Madonna is a popstar and performer first, Gaga is a singer/songwriter and musician first. Madonna came up as a dancer in clubs and made performances and music to be performed to, Gaga came up writing poetry and songs with indie rock bands. Gaga starts with the music, Madonna starts with the performance/concept. And the times Gaga has tried to start with the latter, it becomes either contrived or complicated (see: ARTPOP). But people have no nuance anymore. There's a reason you can watch Gaga do Jazz & Piano, and people pay for it, and someone like Madonna has never done something like that. You don't watch her for musicality or singing ability, you watch her for her spectacle. Gaga has become adept at both now.

So now she has to give "credit" because otherwise it'll become a talking point. And considering news outlets, brands and even modern journalism PRIORITISES clickbait and online commentary, her PR team probably know this. Because all it takes is one clip to go viral (like that Madonna one) and suddenly it's a talking point. Which that interview became last month.

Gaga: “I hail men, I love men…”

Also Gaga: Alexander “Got Killed By My Girlfriend” Skarsgard, Bad Romance “When Pillow Talk Became A Fireside Chat” Bedside Suitor, Tyrese “Honey, What Is In These Biscuits” Gibson, Jackson Maine, Maurizio Gucci, Arthur “Joke’s On Who” Fleck, Irv [I Can’t Remember His Last Name, but The Runway CEO Whose Demise Opened the Budgetary Restrictions Paving The Way for a Gaga to Perform] TDWP2 … and like kind of Kinney and Carino

ETA: To be fair, not necessarily contradictory maybe just coincidental, complicated and non-committal

This being used against her never made sense when the line before says "I try to sell myself but I am really laughing"
Shes owning the fact she sells herself but says she doesn't actually love any of it ... How could we possibly know that line is false
