Her saying “I’m not a gay woman” when years earlier she declared that she had certainly had sexual relationships with women

This is something I also found odd, for years she said she was openly bisexual and when she gave speeches at events she would say "our community" when talking about LGBT issues and then around 2016 she started saying things like that and said something similar in 2019 as well. I wonder if she did it because she didn't feel like she could openly call herself bi because she was always in straight relationships (which is odd because that doesn't erase her attractions regardless).

I remember in early career fron lime 2009 to 2012 kinda time she used to say a lot of stuff that was either contradicted or I didnt really believe tbh. Nothing massive which is why i cant remember specific examples off the top of my head now

But Gaga was also more performative and persona like at all times in her early career including off stage and seemed to be performing at all times even with statements and interviews or at least that was my impression

I like the new Gaga we got post 2013 as she slowly became more and more real and felt like herself more so imo

I kinda disagree with this, especially because around 2018/ASIB era she seemed so performative in interviews when she would repeat the same "100 people in the room" line over and over again in interviews or her always emphasizing that they cooked together, it seemed almost rehearsed. I know she had lines that she would repeat for all her eras up to that point but those seemed more natural (well maybe not the "fathers daughter/sisters sister" one from the Joanne era) and at least she was saying it slightly differently each time.

For example, we had no idea she was politically active and donating behind the scenes for several elections, nor the fact that the BTWF had raised over $6m of donations for charities worldwide UNTIL the 2020 cyber hack of her legal firm (which is where we found out about all her contracts and finances).

Wait what elections was she donating to? (I wasn't aware of this).

this is actually a good apology lmao, the i'm sorry if you felt offended clownery is so common...

I think it is funny you mention that because the "I'm sorry you were offended/your feelings were hurt" apology was the one she used when criticized by PETA (and some fans) in 2012 for wearing fur (she also mocked them and made light of it in 2010 at the Monster Ball when PETA came after her for the meat dress).

How has nobody mentioned her perfumes?

She discontinued products that everyone loved and were selling really well and went on a whole year and a half of “I don’t want to sell things, I’m not that type of celebrity etc” to having 2 years of non stop ads, sponsorships, and pushing things nobody wanted her to. And it didn’t stop until it all blew up in her face with the nurtec fiasco.

Also, another contraction was how much she hated Hollywood and celebrity culture only to move to Hollywood and take part in said celebrity culture

because she didn't say "i don't want to sell things"

she said she didn't like being used to sell things she didn't want to sell

at that moment in time, she wasn't happy selling fragrances and felt really used for money

the nurtec thing hardly stopped anything as she has continued to sell things straight after that so it didn't really blow up in her face

i think you need to rewatch that talk she gave because the point of her talk wasn't "i don't want to sell things", the point was she felt so used as a money maker by those around her that she finally started saying no to things she didn't want to do at all and that helped her feel like an artist again

She literally says that she tries to sell herself, cause overall she’s a mainstream pop artist, but the success doesn’t exceed her love for art and music. It’s not that deep.

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

this fanbase seems to have adopted it as an anti-capitalist statement, as if she didn't have her name slapped on a pair of overpriced ear phones 2 years prior

I think the contradiction I struggle with the most these days is her seemingly apolitical stance during a very dark time for the world. I like to believe she will speak out more in the future but some extremely serious major world events have occurred the past few years, and the last true political stance she took was supporting the Kamala campaign. I think that reconciling her current public persona (strictly entertainment and business venture focused) with her past persona as a very politically, culturally and socially outspoken musician, is a major contradiction and one that could affect her legacy going forward if she chooses to stay silent on political issues and injustice.

This is very well said.

Yes… I think she’s really harmed her legacy of political activism by saying NOTHING about Palestine. It’s a huuuuuuge **** stain on her legacy and at this point too little too late.

i think you need to rewatch that talk she gave because the point of her talk wasn't "i don't want to sell things", the point was she felt so used as a money maker by those around her that she finally started saying no to things she didn't want to do at all and that helped her feel like an artist again

Precisely this, in both 2014 and that talk she said she felt like a “money making machine” from her old management at Atom Factory. Which is true because they used her to sell a perfume she clearly didn’t want to make or sell, so much so the second one for barely any promo and a short ad that just randomly slapped a Cheek to Cheek song in it and called it a day. Just to fulfill contractual obligations.

Also in hindsight, you can tell she CLEARLY hated promoting it in the interviews by her body language and the fact she sighed and looked tired constantly. Then she often veered on a tangent not remotely related to the perfume. And the whole “I won’t make one unless you can make it black and spray clear” was her clearly asking for what they said was impossible hoping she’d never have to do it.

Where as all her promotions after that seem like she believes in them. Nurtec makes sense for her chronic pain, Haus Labs because she’s a performer who loves makeup and she’s inclusive. Plus after the original launch didnt do well, they rebranded and became hugely successful and made one of the best selling foundations of all time. It currently gets bought more than both Rare and Fenty.

The fact they pivoted instead of giving up proves it wasn’t a forced business venture like say, her stint as Polaroid’s Creative Director. Which amounted to nothing and slipped away. Same for her BitTorrent partnership.
