It is well known that Taylor's fame is very calculated. I'd say more than 50% of what's she does is a PR move. Taylor had a lot of right leaning controversy and news following her during The Eras tour. Instead of being vocal and blatant on her thoughts, Taylor always uses a more passive approach. The last thing she wants is to lose out on another human who will buy 40 variants of her album. Hence, the simple act of playing "Applause" by Lady Gaga before each show was enough to keep her LGBTQ fans supporting her for the time being.

P.S. I won't be surprised if this was her dad's idea tbh 😭

Hate her? No. I’m not blinded by her for sure, and currently she’s not in my good graces, but oh well! :ohwell:

Do I hate her? Absolutely not. Do I think she makes some of the most bland, unseasoned slop music of all time - the musical equivalent of uggs, a big stupid hat and a pumpkin spice latte? Absolutely.

fr, bait used to be believable

Half of the threads on here have become reaction bait threads tbh. We need new rules against these types of threads by the time LG8 comes around.

I don't "hate" her or wish anything bad for her. There are more horrible people out there to hate. But she had made questionable decisions that I would rightfully call out.

tbh I never hated Taylor. I also liked showgirl era really much !! but only thing I don’t like is that she doesn’t speak up about the genocide that’s going on in Gaza right now :(

Taylor played Applause before every one of her eras tour shows, which is the biggest tour of all time. She gave Gaga a huge amount of free promo and introduced Applause to a lot of new people. Each night had an average attendance of 68 000.

This gave Applause generous streaming boosts, during the Eras tour it was consistently in her top 10 most streamed songs and thanks to Taylor's help it's on the way to reach 900 million streams next year.

Of course we all know that Taylor Swift is the worst, most deplorable human to have ever lived (Did you know she dared to drop 2 extra versions of her latest single this week? What a monster!!!!)  What was this evil woman, who is obviously not a girl's girl, doing out there supporting another WOMAN???

I can understand that you appreciate Taylor Swift and want to defend her. But saying to Gaga's fans that they should be grateful for the streams on Applause is not very serious. :awkney:

First idc about Gaga's streams. I'm just a fan. Second, Gaga didn’t need Taylor’s help, and even less from her sticky fangirls. The same fangirls who act hostile toward everything that is not TS-friendly. They streamed Applause bc they associated this to Taylor. And Applause worth more than that. It’s meaningful to Gaga's career at one of her hardest time in life. And it is meaningful to any individual who feel connected to this song for personal reasons. :saladga:

It’s valid to defend TS by saying "she's hungry for success and society simply does not accept the idea of competition and hierarchies... But it exists and Taylor is not the only one to be competitive but she's n°1 rn so you don’t like her." :ohwell:

That’s how I would have phrased a defense for Taylor Swift.

On the moral field... She's far from being perfect, like everyone and more especially the billionaires. But ppl think she is an hypocrite in terms of fights and her "girl next-door" role aged poorly. :stupidoreo:

You can defend her artistic ethics without bringing the moral and human complexity question here. Even for Gaga's case, it’s a delicate subject since celebs are not ppl that we personally know.

Probably under substances... An alchemist is born !

nah, if anything just immensely disappointed that someone with a clear knack for music and who is talented in her own regards just chooses to cheapen her brand for whatever gain like b4 obtaining the masters i could see the hustle to get the money but like at this point what is this girl doing?? and i say this as an og fan from debut, after reputation i rly thought she would shed the whole girl next door thing and just kinda do her own thing. but i think the whole media attention from, kim/kanye plus the whole masters thing, just rly threw her off a path that would have been rly exciting to see if this wasn’t the one she chose

I don't hate anyone including Taylor.

But I do found she became more and more annoying as time went on

Let's not play around, Taylor didn't do this out of the sole reason of supporting Gaga. She clearly related to Applause and saw herself in it. It wouldn't matter who had written it. And I don't think the inclusion of the song is the reason the song has the streams it has. Most people don't notice or care which songs are playing as background noise pre-show. 9 out of 10 people are talking/on their phones/getting food/going to the toilets at that point. It's not songs by the person they're there to see, so it's irrelevant. Applause featured on GTA V as a pop radio song which got it exposed to far more people and the song's been out for well over a decade now, its naturally gathered loads of streams. The video hasn't exactly got her biggest views or likes. So I think Taylor's influence specifically is minimal.
