Would you say you stand for gay rights and then invite Anita Bryant to speak about anything? Her not advocating for trump and his policies in that moment is irrelevant to who she has shown herself to be as a person

This isn’t the same. Anita Bryant actively led an anti-gay crusade. She was the primary source of her hate campaign. That’s what she stood for

Sexyy Red responded to a question in support of Trump in an interview because of “free checks” and how she thought he was “funny”, and then voted for Kamala anyway. I know she performed for someone at Mar a Lago recently (which I find to gross), but she isn’t out there singing praises in his policy. She comes off as someone who isn’t very politically attuned.

The equivalency of these two just isn’t there.

I was supporting Zara when no one else was, even @River was telling me to stop and that she would never make it.
Zara Larsson and her team are chronically online and always know what’s going on, so it’s hard to believe they didn’t know that Sexyy Red had performed at a MAGA wedding + she is also a Chris Brown supporter. This is just weird that someone who’s been so outspoken against Trump and Chris Brown has no problem performing with someone who supports them.

It just felt phony that she always did the right thing, too many perfect claims.. like she said no to the Eurovision, now to Abu Dhabi, and so on and so on.. how tf does she want to have a career if she's so easily canceling concerts or performance? so to me she never been approach by the Eurovision and she's most likely going to perform in Abu Dhabi, because the penalty is too high to pay..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

right? like, Gaga was in the video with Red AFTER that interview where she made the Trump comments. Where was the outrage then

sometimes people are in proximity of people with sh*tty opinions, it doesn’t mean they support their opinions

lol babe…. Being able to acknowledge the complexity and nuance of life is the opposite of simplistic. Your black and white frame of logic is a great example of simplistic. Have a good day lol

No no. You don't get to point fingers like this and pretend you're being gray. Your ability to throw away plain example in the favor of ignorance is horrifying. And don't fcking "babe" me. You're filth.

You're never going to convince me that blanket cutting off communication to people who don't think like us is the way to move forward. It's a very angry, impractical, and immature position to hold. You're free to associate with whoever you want, but I don't think it's beneficial to shut yourself into an echo chamber.

There are many supporters who don't see actions from the administration as "denying others their human rights," and that can come from a lack of understanding. Positive change to someones viewpoint comes about through communication. Contrary to what social media suggests, humans are capable of still finding common ground while having opposing political beliefs. Hell, I've had people in my own life who voted/supported Trump initially, and have since become radically and loudly against him and the Republicans.

MORE IMPORTANTLY I looked up what aspects of Trump that Sexyy Red even liked, and these were her quotes:

“I like Trump,” she said. “Yeah, they support him in the hood. At first I don’t think people was f–king with him. They thought he was racist, saying little s–t against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Aww baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office. We need him back because, baby, them checks. Them stimulus checks. Trump, we miss you... “I love Trump. He funny to me,” she continued. “I used to be watching him talking to people. He used to be calling people fat. He just bold. He funny. We need people like him.”

CALL ME CRAZY but uhhh I don't think she's coming from a place of understanding of his "human rights" agenda and actions on a geopolitical landscape.

Yes, you are right in that regard: We should always invite conversation and give everyone an opportunity to learn and change. Which is only possible if we find common ground, right. There is, however, a distinction to be made between inviting people so they can learn from experience and giving someone who supports MAGA a plattform without any explanation, even if it is just a collaborative performance. The latter normalizes putting people with questionable views into the spotlight.

One second I'm a troll, then suddenly the troll is me.

I mean Gaga is in her video, I only ever listened to that song because Gaga was in the video and I vibed with it so my streams may have given Sexy Red a cent or two lol. I would say Gaga's platform is much bigger than Zara (who I would hand to my heart not recognize on the street). Do i have a problem with it? Not really. It's a simple stupid song with an obviously simple stupid artist. Sometimes that is all there is to it. The listener has the choice if they will be "influenced". Zara is not bringing Sexy Red to your bank to make withdrawels.

to be fair that's not coming out as MAGA, that's getting her bag, i don't think she necessarily has bookings raining on her, i think she might take anything she's offered, still bad tho of course.

there are people who stand for gay rights and for Palestine, some people want to be nuanced, others can be fully convicted and against every single things which clashes with their own morals. Personally I think either is fine for each individual but they can't expect everyone else to do the same

Did she platform her to speak about Trump and support of his administration, or did she bring her out to perform a song?

I do believe this to be true, but that shouldn't be confused with "optics hysteria" where everyone's just obsessed with how something ~looks~

Neither here nor there sort of random reference, but this dynamic reminds me of the Pulse Vigil … Gaga was in LA at the time … she was at Madam Siam‘s with Sam (and maybe Mark?) Ronson supporting a DJ Set / Fundraiser for the Hillary campaign the night of the attack in Orlando … then she gave a speech and read the names of the fallen at the City Hall Vigil a few days later …

2.png

No one knew she was going to be at the LA Vigil until she approached the microphone … the scene was surreal, the gasps were palpable … I think even when everyone had dispersed, people were still in a state of “was she, wasn‘t she … actually there/here …” but she was present, and it was just people being present for the sake of presence for people who had passed, and the potential of progress for posterity …

The campaign platforming vs. music performance, and substance beyond optics hysteria spectacle, just reminded me of that blink of a time when Gaga sort of lived a bit of a humble synthesis of that fragile pop and politics personification where a public figure animates the personal condition … or something to said effect

But, I never know … just musing captures from the memory‘s museum into the airwaves

2016 was a time …
