AHS 13 is a dud (so far)

I'm not really sure what's going on with the characters. I dont know if it's jaring because some of them are not in their usual settings but something seems really off. Obviously they are all older and some haven't played these characters in many years but this feels hollow so far. Im quite let down by this i hope it will improve.

the 22 min episode lengths are a joke and they just wasted a whole bunch of time in them already on a bunch of nothing

I have not seen the episodes yet but I know they will be terrible. Pretty much every season is! It's one of those SO BAD I LOVE IT shows.

It’s always been maximalist for sure that’s Ryan’s bread and butter but it went off the rails (like Glee) when it started going too much into entertaining the gays. Coven getting constantly reused is because it’s the favourite gay fan show is evidence of that.

People don’t really want camp anymore, they want it to be an actual scary and gory and depressing horror show more aligned with the first 2 seasons. That Tumblr soft grunge style.

Not saying I want that, but it’s definitely a trap Ryan’s fallen into. All his shows are made for the gays atp.

I agree the characters all feel off. I think that could be plot related or bad writing so I’m holding out for an answer. I have a theory about it though. This season reminds me of how I felt during apocalypse when we were waiting for witches for weeks.

Definitely feels like bad writting, especially that dinner party scene, the awkward writing for tate and the cult guy, it feels like they just wanted to have a scene with 2 Evans interacting, idg the need for the cult evan to have been there it was just awkward

I meannnn….. the man do be gay though, as are a lot of the cast, and I consider it a pro. There are absolutely people who still want camp too. Every single season has had horror and camp; it’s part of the foundation. The Name Game in Asylum is peak camp. I have been rewatching and I don’t think there is as big of a tone shift. If anything, Season 1 was more drama leaning than horror but I’m very desensitized to the horror genre 😂

But that was my intuition  I knew the weakness would be the forced connections cause the only good connection to prior seasons they did well was Pepper’s story in Freak Show

Like I said in a previous comment I think they need to go back to the not connected anthology series idea that persisted till Freak Show essentially.

Okay. I understand that camp is the point now, but trying so hard to be campy kinda makes it not camp... just.... bad. 

I'd much rather see a bad season with an original story and mew characters than a bad season because they feel pressure to play with every popular character in their sandbox for the fans. 

Ima still watch it but lord God is this a mess so far.

I just remembered it's only 13 episodes right? If all the eps are 22 mins long then thats pretty much a whole season in the length of 5 episodes of the usual episode lengths?

Basically the length of the two halves of Double Feature. About 5-6 episodes each side. 

Maybe it’s because they could only get the whole cast for so long so they’ve had to spread it out

They should have just made it a limited series and done 5-6 full episodes, something about the short format just feels like a huge waste of time considering those 22 minutes each include their own long af opening and then closing credits
