He got caught with his pants down and is desperately hoping some rich white boy tears will make everyone look away. Notorious Bean 8,551
I agree with @Sarah Hit's fine to criticise his actions/decisions around the tour, but some of the personal hate has gone way too far where it feels like bullying and that’s wrong to me. 28 minutes ago, ALGAYDO said: Israel is murdering Palestinian kids left and right, tell them that and see the reaction sis Treating Ed like he's personally responsible for what's happening in Gaza doesn't make sense to me. especially when he's said it was the promoters who made the call to remove Macklemore. You guys are nowhere near as angry as you should be about the literal ethnic cleansing of an entire population (and more) what the hell? His politics are clear and he's not a nice person because no nice person would tip toe around this bullshit to preserve their career when they could be raising actual awareness and enacting actual change. Much smaller public figures who have MUCH more to lose have taken a stand and done actual activism while this idiot is still playing his fake centrist apolitical card. In what way? He bent knee to what he knew was censorship of an artist he claimed to be a friend. He has now provided three statements, all of which fail to actually address the core of the issue. He has both-sides an ongoing atrocity that has a very clear aggressor and victim. He has reiterated that he is an apolitical artist (no such thing, by the way), despite sharing multiple political opinions both in his music and in public statements in the past. If anything, the response he's gotten has been more muted than it deserves. He has knowingly and willingly aided a multi-billionaire in censoring an individual's point of view because he disagreed with that point of view. That is a clear violation of Macklemore's right to free speech and Ed allowed it to happen.

We're treating Ed like he is personally responsible for aiding in the censorship of a fellow artist at the hands of a MAGA billionaire while publicly minimizing the issue that said artist was bringing attention to by repeating propagandist language that obscures the intense, brutal reality of the atrocity that lies at the center of this whole thing. He is responsible for that. 3

Nobody in their right mind is blaming Ed for what’s happening to the Palestinians. But he did choose as side by being complacent and taking the “both sides” approach to it all. What he did to Mack is a slap in the face to all of those Palestinians suffering. So no, the hate he’s getting isn’t unjustified, it’s perfectly in tune with what’s happening. And him being too ignorant on the matter isn’t an excuse. He knows what’s happening and he knows it’s wrong. He just chose profit over morals and that’s okay to call out.
Grissem 106
He removed the B stage of tonight's show (where he usually was surrounded by the audience) out of fear what the audience would be like and how they would react to him, he told the audience himself Honestly should have just cancelled the rest of the US concerts after this fiasco

He is responsible for that. I'm not disagreeing that Ed is responsible for his part in the tour situation or for how he worded his statement. If people want to criticise him for being complacent / taking a both sides approach / not pushing back on the promoters, that's completely valid and I get why people are angry about it. My only point from the start was that the level of personal hate with DM harassment, slur-filled posts and celebrating cancelling an artist has gone OTT and crossed from accountability into bullying. I'm not saying we shouldn’t call him out but call out what he's actually responsible for without the horrible messages he’s getting https://open.spotify.com/track/7q1GGm2mBlC9hPWige0C6e?si=6b5319d0e3b44fa6

Where is this energy when it comes to politicians who could ACTUALLY make a difference and say and do nothing? Genuinely wondering. I do think Ed's handling of the situation was cowardly, but I can't help feeling like cancel culture has allowed and exacerbated people's sadistic pleasure in seeing a successful public figure being destroyed. I don't think this is helping anyone in the bigger picture. Edited Sunday at 10:56 AM by elijahfan 6
