I wonder if the polyamory of it all will cause the fundamentalist Mormons to flock. Seattle divas: if they open up a Swig shop? DEFEND YOUR HOMELAND. STAND YOUR GROUND. Polygamy is already decriminalized in Utah and that state itself is built around the infrastructure of the LDS (my bff lives in Utah and is ex-LDS) so I wouldn’t expect Mormon’s to flock there. Plus they can’t partake in the coffee culture so prominent there anyways.

But then that just sounds like more of that "separate but equal" crap we gays faced before when they were pushing "civil unions" instead of actual marriage While I love my husband, the concept of marriage itself is ridiculous and outdated. Were it not for the protections and ability to care for each other that came with the document, I would never marry. That said, provided all states could actually cooperate with digital infrastructure effectively, all one would need to do is incorporate a consent form for the existing spouse. Then just submit the document for each person you’re marrying into. I don’t think the legal logistics are actually messy at all

Polygamy is to be married multiple times in your life. For example if you marry, get divorced and marry someone else. That’s Polygamy. It used to be frowned upon because of very Catholic views on marriage. Bigamy is illegal pretty much in the entire western world I believe. And is not legally recognised, you can also be fined and go to jail for committing bigamy too, for example in the UK you can get up-to 7 years imprisonment for bigamy. But it depends on the circumstances. For example if you willingly entered a second marriage knowing you were still married, have a history of fraud offences, or are getting married for monetary or visa related reasons—those all would get you out in prison. Polygamy is by definition the practice of marrying more than one spouse at the same time. Remarrying after divorce is equivalent to an affair and is adultry. Having your union recognized and protected by your representative government? It's a social thing, it means you're part of a community But yeah, the only hangups are things that could easily be settled with pre-nup styled contracts and a slight shift in how marriages are recognized. While I was doing my digging last night one of the main skepticisms people like to bring up is survivor benefits. If one person is on social security and they die, those benefits get transferred to their spouse. So "how do you fairly divide that among 3+ partners?". Easy. Tweak the definition of a marriage as a contractual union and pay the benefits out to the union instead of a special spouse. Another was child custody and I really don't see how the number of spouses is relevant. The spouse that's a blood parent gets priority, otherwise that's what family courts are for. The dumbest one was "how do you fairly divide assets when one spouse decides to divorce the others?" as if it isn't obvious that a civil divorce court could handle that just as they handle two-person relationships. So many "impossibly complex problems" can be sorted using the same legal precedents set by small businesses or other assets with multiple owners. Literally only the joint filing status on taxes is tricky but even that's just 'cause the structure of our tax codes is built around single people and couples. Just change the structure Whimsical bitch

I think the latter is used mostly as a legal term akin to "fraudulent unions" since it's currently illegal. But yeah, @gagzus, polygamy is marrying multiple people at once. I mean, technically, bigamy would be being married to two people, and polygamy is a broader term and means at least two, maybe more. Very relatable and for the longest time, same, but it's important to distinguish between being averse to sex due to trauma and being asexual. One is psychological and physiological damage, the other is a sexual orientation. That's one of the issues ace people face, people assume they aren't interested in sex because they're damaged somehow. 1 hour ago, Oriane said: I mean, technically, bigamy would be being married to two people, and polygamy is a broader term and means at least two, maybe more. I googled it You aren't wrong about the word (bigamy) but I was right that "bigamy" is mostly a legal term, specifically the "unlawful act of entering a marriage with one person while already married to another person". It's a type of fraud it seems. Whimsical bitch

In workplaces they may sometimes be givednmore work load because of the assumption they have free time to spare, unlike their colelagues who have children and are gived softer expectations and more free days and leverage in the work program. Oh god that reminds me of years ago when I didn't get a promotion, and someone I work with was like "she (the person who got the job) does have kids after all" as if that mattered instead of merit, and it pissed me offfffff looking back, the one who got the job was definitely more qualified haha, but the thing my co-worker said was what irritated me
