LMAO imagine being ceo of a company as big as disney and making this decision. guess you don't really have to be educated or intelligent whatsoever for that position ! then again, look at our "president". the jokes write themselves To be fair, the decision DOES make sense from a business perspective. The decision was probably either do this, or significantly raise the prices. Because they are probably having a subscriber problem (like Netflix did). Netflix added ad tiers specifically because it wasn’t getting enough money from subscribers alone. Disney+ content has only gotten more and more expensive now to make now that there’s been strikes and demands from workers to get more pay and recognition. So in order to make a tv show that has almost the same budget as an indie movie you have to make some compromises I’m afraid.
MountainMonster 2,878
Honestly, if you don’t want ads you have to just stop watching. They will add more and more ads until people stop subscribing.

But I explained above why that happens in videos now on YouTube. I know why it happens, I just wish there was a way for creators to mark the sponser portion of their video and it automatically skips. I mostly listen to YouTube while I'm at work and since I work in a bakery I rarely have free hands to reach into my pocket and skip a sponser pitch. So I'm paying for premium and still effectively getting "ads" Whimsical bitch

At this point it's becoming unethical to actually pay them money for their actions I won't mention it publicly, but I have a really amazing streaming app that live-torrents so you can stream just about anything in real time, often 4K, with subtitles. I pay $4 a month to hide my activity from my ISP. It's very difficult to setup, but if you DM me I can send you the link and help I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

This sounds very boot-lickery Are you really taking the favour of the multi-conglomerate that has taken control of 90% of US media and is worth $177billionUSD? Over the underpaid workers who actually produce the content that earns them hundreds of millions? And the average working class person who can't afford their extortionate prices? You may be too young to remember, but the entire point and sales pitch of streaming was always that we are paying for an ad free, on-demand experience. As soon as they had enough power to monopolise the market, and all but destroyed traditional media like TV, they flipped that and decided they want money from subscriptions AND advertisers Disney is an evil super villain company and I don't want to hear any more sympathy for them I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Yeah I wasn’t endorsing it nor am I a fan of it. I was just explaining the logistics of what happens. Because businesses run on data and statistics not feelings or ethics I’m afraid. So the less subscribers they get, the more they will try to recoup money. And this is just one of those ways. Investors want a return on investment, and the only way to do that is to make sure they’re making enough money to pay them. That’s literally why Netflix became the first streamer to have ad tiers in the first place. Because they were not making enough money in subscribers to support the service anymore, especially once they started having original content and having big name actors in their content. They disguised it as a “cheaper” alternative so people could afford Netflix on low income just with the caveat of having a few adverts like cable tv here and there. It’s also why shows get cancelled all the time on streaming platforms. Something could have millions of views but if most of those views are from ad free accounts or repeat viewings, and the shows aren't driving up subscriber counts or retention—they just get cancelled. That’s also why Netflix cut down on its first-day drop system where a whole season would come out in one go. Because people would pay for a month sub, watch it and unsubscribe until the next season. Now they can drag it out to 2-3 or more payments. It’s also why they cracked down on password sharing. Streaming is heading towards being glorified fragmented cable, with each streaming acting like a channel. And analysts think that it will become a reality by the 2030s, with streamings even moving away entirely from the “anytime anywhere” ideology. “Live channels” has already become a thing on Disney+ and other streamers already. Like if you’re a family, you could watch something on it in the living room whilst your kids watch something in their bedrooms. Because right now the lowest tier only allows 1080p and playback on a single device at a time. You also don’t get mid-roll ads on Disney content like Disney+ Original Series, Disney Channel Originals, Disney/Pixar IPs but there’s a chance you might get mid roll ads on their other properties like FX, Hulu, Marvel Studios etc. Edited yesterday at 04:47 AM by gagzus
