Nowadays I'm not even consuming enough of any media to justify paying for it, much less pay to watch ads. The only one I pay for is YouTube 'cause I'm always watching or playing something and I like being able to turn my screen off and have the video play still. What drives me up the wall is all the content creators that have "a word from our sponsors" segment in their videos. It's so goddamn irritating to literally pay to avoid ads then be listening to a podcast only to have to stop what I'm doing and skip anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes of the video And when you double tap the video to skip ahead 10 seconds it'll give you the option to skip the ad entirely. To be fair it’s getting harder because it’s being phased out, a lot of Disney+ content doesn’t get proper releases anymore and thanks to DCMA you can’t record the shows anymore and burn ROMs because it’s illegal to have them even if you paid for the service. Yeah, the gaming space is definitely bleak rn, but DVD/CD sales are actually on the rise. People are getting fed up with the games these corporations are playing. It’s two-fold, one of them is down to the rules of monetisation on YouTube, since about 2021 YouTube updates it’s monetisation content rules so that you can’t properly monetise your content if you do things like say profanity, promote political ideology or are covering a controversial topic like murder or crimes. You also can’t use clips you don’t own the right to either. The other is that YouTube monetisation amount has increased its threshold. Now you need about 1m views on your videos to get only a few hundred dollars. Normally the ads you get on those videos with those topics; the money goes to YouTube itself (else you’d have to pay to use it in general by now) that’s why people take sponsorships. But also the sponsorships are because the sponsors know that person’s videos get views. So it’s a two-way street.

I don't like videos playing in the background for whatever reason so I'm always near. Normally if an ad plays I just get up and do something real quick and finish up to rewind the actual video a few seconds. Luckily most creators I end up watching put timestamps on their ads so I can quickly skip them. It irks me too but at least they're getting the money for the sponorships and not having to split with YouTube. 12 minutes ago, Whigney Houstan said: Yeah, the gaming space is definitely bleak rn, but DVD/CD sales are actually on the rise. What I was getting at was that the DVD players are going to likely not be made for much longer because console makers aren't ordering optical drives for the next console generation. So the supply chain to make DVD players is collapsing.

Not sure if they‘re of any help, but for ad blocks, maybe Firefox browser with uBlock, DuckDuckGo browser (built-in Duck Player for YouTube links), or Brave browser … ? 38 minutes ago, AsleepOnTheCeiling said: I'm hoping there comes a day when advertising gets much more regulated. That the Ad Sales / Media Buying dynamic at the Fortune 500 level is effectually just a glorified racket where tycoons trade money between each other as “advertisers” and “publishers” … and that Advertising is a business expense tax deduction … why wouldn‘t corporate advertisers give corporate media partners millions of dollars on “ads” to block their competitors from airtime / prime media presence and deduct the spend as an expense from their taxable income … and that the majority of the spend is for the “space” alone, and comparative peanuts goes to the creative team (and that was before the AI boom) But, again, new and novice here so I never really know how business works … just riffing on references

Also, tech analysts have confirmed 4K doesn’t really work on household TVs, you need a cinema size screen to actually see the difference Edited 23 hours ago by gagzus

The thing they’re on about is built-in sponsors where the hosts of a podcast/show take a “break” to promote something. All you have to do is fast forward through the video though I guess. But I explained above why that happens in videos now on YouTube.

The purpose of streaming being a library of ad-free content has long since been a dead idea since just before the pandemic. Now corporations have split up to have their own services because they make more money doing that.

CatelynnMarie 4,563
lmao trash. they are fools. a lot of people are going to cancel their subs and they will lose money from that. people pay for the sub to get AWAY from the ads.
