That has to be a lot of pressure. Hell, there was a threat at her Rio show. She knows firsthand how crazy people can be. And like you said, I’ve never once doubted what she’s probably feeling, I feel like as a fan I’ve gotten to know her heart well after 16 years. exactly that, i think she's learnt the hard way that she can't always be the hero and needs to put herself first even people were p*ssed she had nothing to say about pride this year... turns out she was busy with a new born baby sorry but that's just how life works mother, what must i do?

You know Gaga, and basically every other big artist like Beyonce or Taylor, would’ve done exactly the same as Ed Sheeran, right? Gaga likely has a very sensible opinion on the conflict. She probably supports a two-state solution. But for most pro-Palestinian people anything other than “Israel should be wiped off the map” is not enough. These are not reasonable people. Gaga now has a half-Jewish child, and her safety is her priority now. Anti-Semitism is now normalized and even seen as cool by younger generations, it’s at an all time high since the Holocaust. These people can get very violent. Just a few months ago, a terrorist in Michigan tried to murder over 100 children at a Jewish daycare. I’m not saying she’s obligated to agree with me or that she has to comment on every issue in the world. I’m saying that her decision not to say anything about Palestinians is something I’m allowed to find disappointing. And it’s not about needing a pop star to “think like me.” It’s about what people choose to support with their attention, money, and admiration. You’re free to think her silence is irrelevant; I’m free to think it says something. Gaga has spent a huge part of her public image standing up for human rights, equality, marginalized people, and humanitarian causes. So when there’s a humanitarian catastrophe affecting Palestinians and she chooses to say nothing, it’s completely fair to question that silence. If she wants to stay out of politics, that’s her choice, but then people are also allowed to question how consistent that is with the values she has publicly championed for years. It’s about deciding what kind of people and values I want to support. You can listen to her music and not care about her silence. I can care about it and call it out. Those are both choices. 1. This situation between Israel and Palestine has been going on for a long time- and October 7, 2023 was almost 3 years ago. If people aren't aware of what Israel has been doing since then, I don't think Lady Gaga using her platform to shine light on it is the issue. She is not their personal news anchor. 2. It's a bit of a purity test to insinuate that you're only going to give admiration and attention to people if you know what causes they support. And you're free to think like that! That's fine. I just think it sounds like an exhausting way to go about enjoying artists. And again- she has said nothing in support of the Israeli government. So it's not like I'm telling you to look the other way about something like that, etc. 3. Not to diminish what is happening to Palestinians, but there are at least 5 other genocides occurring in other areas of the world, and no one has held her feet to the fire to comment about those. I hate to say it, but it's become "trendy" on a certain sect of social media to use the atrocities happening to the Palestinian people as a moral measuring stick on who and who not to "cancel". A large percentage of the outrage, particularly about Gaga doesn't come off as general concern, but feels more like wanting to make sure their fave will be on the right side of history. And I find that gross.

Let's complain that she is silent on every other war that is currently taking place. I'd understand if she was very progressive and vocal about what's happening in the world but somehow avoided Palestine, but she is not. These days she doesn't even acknowledge Pride month. Let's compare how she campaigned for Hillary vs Kamala. And it's not like it's a sudden change. She's not been this vocal activist girl you think she is for years now. Now you can make your own assumptions as to why she changed in this regard but it's not the "she talks about everything else but suddenly mute when it comes to Palestine" situation. A large percentage of the outrage, particularly about Gaga doesn't come off as general concern, but feels more like wanting to make sure their fave will be on the right side of history. And I find that gross. I think you're still arguing against something I haven't said. I'm not demanding that Gaga speak, and I'm not saying she's responsible for ending the genocide or that I need every artist I enjoy to pass some political purity test. I'm saying that I'm allowed to care about whether someone whose public image is heavily built around human rights and compassion chooses to acknowledge Palestinians who are suffering. That's a completely different argument. Saying “people already know what's happening” also doesn't really answer the point. People already know about plenty of humanitarian crises that celebrities speak about anyway. The value of someone with a huge platform speaking isn't necessarily that they're providing information nobody has ever heard before. It's that they're using their influence to publicly acknowledge something they believe matters. And I don't think “she hasn't supported Israel” settles the issue either. There are more positions than “support Israel” and “say nothing.” You can acknowledge Palestinian civilians, call for an end to suffering, advocate for humanitarian aid, or simply express solidarity with people being harmed. I'm not asking her to endorse a particular political faction. As for the other genocides: I genuinely hope people care about them too. But “why aren't you demanding that she speak about every other crisis?” isn't an argument against caring about this one. I don't need to prove that I care equally about every tragedy on Earth before I'm allowed to be upset about one. Plus, Gaga's an American, and it's a known fact that US taxes go straight to Israel and that US sells arms to Israel. That's why Palestine should matter a bit more to Americans. Also, in 2022, Gaga signed an anti-BDS petition. Look up BDS if you don't know what that is. Man, there are a lot of questions to be asked. And I think the “it's trendy” point is where we're making assumptions about each other's motives. Maybe some people are treating celebrity activism like a fandom purity test. I can't speak for them. But you're doing the same thing you're accusing them of doing when you assume that people asking Gaga to acknowledge Palestinians are mainly trying to make sure their favorite celebrity is “on the right side of history.” For me, it's not about needing a pop star to validate my point. It's actually the opposite: her silence can change how I personally feel about supporting her. She has every right to remain silent, and I have every right to decide that her silence matters to me. You don't have to agree with that standard.

That's a pretty extreme version of the argument. The point is that performing in Israel in 2014 (only weeks after an offensive that killed 2000 Palestinians), praising Israeli fans, and then remaining silent about Palestinian suffering can reasonably be part of a broader conversation about how she uses her platform and where she stands. It doesn't prove what she personally believes politically, and I wouldn't claim that it does. Madonna performed there and made a statement And bringing up Britney, Imagine Dragons, or Bruno Mars doesn't really disprove anything. If people want to criticize those artists for their choices or silence too, they're perfectly entitled to. The fact that other celebrities haven't received the same criticism doesn't mean Gaga is above criticism. Plus, the celebrities you named aren't known for activism on human rights. What I'm actually questioning is why people get so defensive about the idea that an artist can be criticized for remaining silent on Palestinian suffering. I actually agree with you that Gaga isn't currently the consistently outspoken political activist she was years ago. I'm not pretending that she is, and I'm not saying she talks about every issue except Palestine. But I don't see how that means I'm not allowed to specifically want her to speak about Palestine. I'm singling out Palestine because Palestine is what I'm talking about. I would like someone with Gaga's platform and history of human-rights advocacy to acknowledge it. I don't need to demand a statement about every war on Earth in order for that feeling to be legitimate. And if her general withdrawal from political activism is the explanation for her silence, that's fine. That's her choice. But “she's generally less political now” explains the silence; it doesn't make the silence something I have to be happy with. I'm also not making assumptions about why she changed. Maybe she doesn't want to be political anymore. Maybe she's changed her priorities. Maybe there are things happening privately that we know nothing about. I don't know.
