It’s not mind blowing but I do agree that she could have let it cook a little longer and leaned into certain sounds. I think there is much to look forward for a second listen. I'm not disappointed since I didn't know what to expect buuuuut a lot of her vocals didn't match the production on the more upbeat songs. Idk if it's the mixing but she sounded so far away and extremely breathy. It was a little all over the place but not in an exciting way. I'll revisit in a few weeks. Not as strong as Something Beautiful was during my first listen, but a lot of songs have grown after a few listens. Redlights sounds like El Condor Pasa though, but it's my second favourite after the title track. The title doesn't quite live up to the content. I don't think it was mostly slow songs as was purported by early reviewers but with a title like that, I was expecting something a bit grittier. Still decent enough, my faves are Bass Persuades, Different Religion, Orbit, Redlights and Snow. The production cuts through in a way that tickles that good part of your brain. Snow especially sent shivers up my spine towards the end, reminds me of when I got high last month, it gets you on that vibrational wave. Maybe this is the bass of the title. But it's a very mixed bag and the songs that don't work as well are very mediocre, so yeah. It's almost all about her getting engaged recently and the newfound emotions with that which is probably why she made it so soon after Something Beautiful. But I feel that album was superior and she needed to let this one cook a bit longer.
