Listened to it on my morning drive, and I thought it was good to fine.

For me, it just lacks any standout bangers or genre exploration that Something Beautiful had. In a way, this reminded me a lot of Endless Summer Vacation, where it kinda felt like an amalgamation of different sounds and ideas that didn't all work together.

Five Standout Songs: Bass Persuades, Different Religion (featuring Model/Actriz), Orbit, Aftermath, and REDLIGHTS

It's kinda like getting Disease and Abracadabra as singles and then you get Joanne as the album when it's released. Really not what you're expecting.

She's such a good lyricist. It's one of those albums where they put all the efforts in the words and undercooked the music and melodies. I wouldn't say it's bad, it's just not what I expexted. Like, it's an album I would rather read than listen to 😂

After the lead single, my expectations were very low but it positively surprised me!! It's not her best album (Something Beautiful) but it's anyway a very good record

Redlights is fantastic. Shame it's getting lost in this album.

Maybe I need to come back to it, but as of now all these tracks sound like outtakes from previous projects.

Let's Get Married from ESV. Orbit sounds like a ballad from Dead Petz. Aftermath with a structure that would be on Something Beautiful.

A reoccurring problem with Miley (IMO) is her lack of identity. She's mercurial in a way that feels like "directionless wandering". I don't need traditionally commercial music, I really liked Something Beautiful but it often leaves something to be desired.

I enjoyed Different Religion and Snow. :vegas:

it's just boring

didn't realise she was so obsessed with being in love

whatever spark she had with plastic hearts and ESV has certainly gone...

Her biggest hits include Wrecking Ball, Flowers, and Adore You. It's really surprising she likes love songs?

This reeks of throwing vault tracks together to push out an album.

BS feels more like a concept than a finished song

Different Religion is good sonically but the lyrics read like a first draft (which is a problem that plagues this entire album tbh)

Let's Get Married and Orbit would both be better off in the hands of someone else (I honestly think Yola would have done these tracks a lot of justice)

Aftermath is a mess

REDLIGHTS is alright but she needed to give the vocals a touch more energy and it sounds like a James Blunt song

Neon Signs is a smoke break

Innocent Ways is giving 2009-era unsigned YouTube singer who just learned how to use a DAW

Snow is alright I guess

Only songs I can see myself returning to are Different Religion and REDLIGHTS

3/10. I don't get it. An attempt at experimentation that resulted in a miss, I fear. My love/hate relationship with Miley's music continues

The sad thing is that we know they're not vault tracks because she's with a new label and her old label likely retained the rights to her old music even if it wasn't recorded prior. So this should all be freshly written. But yeah there's absolutely no cohesion for the album, it sounds nothing like the titular track, and it struggles lyrically or melodically on just about every song. Different Religion is a good song but it's not catchy enough to hear her repeat the same 4 lines more than one play at a time.

Her last 2 albums have really lacked direction and cohesion. Plastic Hearts was amazing and even Dead Petz, a "pet" project of hers, had cohesion her more recent albums lack. She's a lot like Gaga in a way, wanting to showcase she's a versatile artist. Which she very much is and she's shown over her eras. But she just is not able to tie the versatility together into a singular package while maintaining impact.

i don't really see how big hits can fully represent an artist, i just meant i didn't realise she was so loved up right now

REDLIGHTS sounds Abbaesque the way some Man's best friends songs did.

And like the songs on MBF, I wish it leaned MORE towards that sound haha.

To be completely honest, when I heard BP, I felt the same as when I had heard Mayhem (Even though I did like more songs from Mayhem upon first listen). Good albums, but they lack that grit of authenticity, fire and/or relatability. Don't get me wrong, I now love Mayhem, but in theory the songs aren't that relatable and lack soul. This album feels the same. I am sure we will like it more when we listen to it a few times, but I am a strong believer that a great album is likes upon first listen. On another note, the BP remix is sick, which the album sounded more like this.
