I'm not saying this to be malicious or anything but I really don't see her being a huge audience draw. Majority of her music isn't clicking with the new generation and MTV is relatively irrelevant to young people these days. If MTV thinks they're going to draw a big audience with Madonna, they've got another thing coming.

I dont think MTV/VMAs are seeking to get a big gen Z audience.  They aint ever gonna suddenly start watching, even gen Z pop girls didn't help.

I still find it wild that she hasn't performed at the VMAs since 2003, and is only returning now. I understand that she appeared three times for speeches in between, but still.

Her music is connecting to the younger generation though. She’s had at this point 8 or 9 songs go hugely viral on social media (Human Nature is currently) and her catalogue streams continue to go up. Around the time CII dropped, she was at a peak of 52m monthly listeners, putting her in the top 40 artists in the world on Spotify. 

Is that gonna translate to VMA viewers? Well no. Even if it was Taylor Swift it wouldn’t because the show itself is the problem. But Madonna absolutely is gaining an audience with younger folks more and more as time passes.
