Edibles keep causing health problems for kids

Summary: There is a rising trend of more and more children eating drug-infused gummy candies at school, but their bodies are not really ready for these chemicals and they keep developing health issues such as vomiting, seizures, fainting and breathing issues. These stories keep coming up month after month and it's so weird.

1:

A string of recent incidents shows students nationwide are sharing marijuana-infused edibles in schools, prompting calls for parents to discuss safety precautions with their children.

A Crisis in the Classroom (CITC) analysis found several such incidents in K-12 schools over the last month, with most involving infused candies.

2:

Just days into the 2026-27 school year, the Manitowoc Public School District is urging families to talk with students about gummies and other ingestible products. The warning comes after what the district described as an increase in medical incidents involving minors in the community.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says cannabis use during adolescence may affect brain development, including memory, learning, attention, decision-making, coordination and reaction time.

How do kids even have these in their possession in the first place?  I'm not from the USA, but I imagine they can't just go buy them at the supermarket

Hot take but drugs and candy should have never been mixed in the first place.

They say THC/marijuana is medicinal? Fine. Make it into a medicine then. Don't mix it into gummies, candy, desserts, and whatever else and then pull a Surprised Meme GIF when kids start using them.

Make it as appealing to kids as Tylenol or something.

Honestly I feel the same about vapes.

Yeah sweet flavours are nice. But they are also blatantly targeting younger demographics with the combination of bright colours and candy flavouring.

Smoke menthols like a real f*ggot should people 😂

I tried smoking for literally one week. A loooong drag on a Marlboro red and the ten minute coughing fit followed by that disgusting taste I couldn't get out of my mouth? Yeah, never smoked again :ladyhaha: Idk how anyone does it, it's so gross.

Make the kids do that :grr:

No sissy water vapor sticks :grr:

I only smoke when I'm drunk and the feeling in my mouth the next day always makes me regret it

Disagree. I hate that adults are expected to enjoy gross flavours like tobacco, vodka and beer and any actually nice flavour is considered "childish" or "immature". Why should we as adults have to ingest disgusting flavours just because a small minority of parents aren't capable of keeping a closer eye on their kids?

Plus, edibles provide an important option for people who don't want to smoke or vape. They're overall much safer and with less permanent side effects than any other way of ingesting weed

Ultimately it's up to the parents to do their due diligence. No amount of legislation will prevent negligent parents from neglecting their children.

Excuse me, I love vodka :neyde:

Flavors are one thing, I specifically said we shouldn't be making gummies and such. Nobody takes an edible for the flavor. Just concentrate it into pill form and pop it like an Ibuprofen. It doesn't need to be candy.

We say this to a lot of things but clearly it is not happening. Parents are busy working + maintaining the household + doom scrolling 10 hours per day, they can't focus on their kids.

This is me with literally any controlled substance. Alcohol especially, they say you're supposed to ignore the taste and focus on the effect but how can I ignore the taste of bitter vomit lol
