Yeah Michael is the only popstar. Prince is the closest to pop out of the others because his funk at some points leaned into disco, but realistically Prince is rock like Hendrix is rock. Back in the 20th century - rock stars were much BIGGER than pop stars and many had their own band (The Beatles, Queen, U2, etc.) These days, genres are often blended, plus pop music is not about any specific genre: it’s about artist having a recognizable image, a following and an ability to throw a successful tour. There are almost none rock stars anymore (biggest “rock” band these days - Coldplay - clearly makes pop music). So it all doesn’t really matter. In the end of the day, all big music artists are pop stars: Harry Styles, Weeknd, Bad Bunny, I’d even say Kendrick Lamar and Eminem (since both had radio hits, both are huge parts of the culture, both successfully tour).

Yeah, but lets be realistic here. The OP was clearly talking about pop music and pop stars. Not male front men like Papa Perpetua & Vessel. So it is important to talk about the role that genre plays in male performance. The gays know how to party 1
StrawberryBlond 15,742
I definitely don't like male popstars as much as female ones. I think they're not overly experimental or risk taking and when they've found something that works, they really don't want to deviate from it. It could be why a lot of them have fallen considerably in terms of success of late while their female counterparts continue to produce quality and expand what they can do. With very few exceptions, it's really difficult for me to be impressed by most of their output. It could be because they're not socialised to do pop in the way women do, though. As soon as they're in their teen years, they're encouraged to go in rock or hip hop direction and pop is seen as lame and they might even be assumed to be gay if they do. So it puts them off giving their all to the genre.

He’s a fairly good live singer and dancer. Has catchy music. Has great visuals. And puts queerness and sexuality at the forefront. That in a nutshell is basically all the big female artists gays love from Madonna to Gaga. Edited September 18 by gagzus
