Men make better rock stars than pop stars because the rock genres and communities generally allow them to express themselves through flamboyant performance. With some genres its practically a requirement. 

Where as men in pop get forced into a cookie cutter approach to performing masculinity that stunts their ability to experiment generally, and those men who do deviate from the expectation have their career growth held back.

Rock allows men to perform (generally) where as pop very much tries to force men to be performative sex symbols for middle class white women.

Of course they should. Not everyone like the same things. 

The most popular performances from 2026 are Justin Bieber’s. By a large margin.

Do I like them? No, I think they’re boring and he looks completely out of them.

But the public loves them, so someone needs to give them that.

Adam Lambert is still alive. Music streaming services just don't want to promote him though, because they still have a problem with gay people. This song alone has more artistry, creativity, integrity, talent exhibited than anything streaming services have pushed this year. It's especially more poignant and artistic and higher quality than that shitty Texas song that no talent MAGA chick sings.

I kind of wish men today had the freedom that Bowie, Prince and Michael had to just do things. Nowadays as soon as a male singer does something out there he's immediately labeled as gay and I guess that's why we're forced to see men being boring as fvck. But at the same time men have far less expectations to reinvent all the time. So unless society shifts we won't get fun mainstream mean again. 

But there's some really gr8 men worth following, just in less mainstream waters.

Ironically, Billie is the one that changed my stance on that  

I thought "why bother going to a concert if it isn't gonna be this huge, intricate production?" and then I saw her with a relatively minimalist show compared to her peers and I had a fantastic time. After that, I decided to finally go see a lot of these small bands I love and they're almost exclusively men. Every show has been beyond worth it.

Especially this one band, Your Neighbors. It was so cool to follow them for a couple years and finally get to see their show and after a killer set they just hopped off the stage and started mingling  I got to meet them and their opening act and all I had to do was walk up and say hi. It was freaking incredible.

I mean… we do, in fact, have male popstars and some are bigger than even the female popstars by comparison on streaming. We just focus on the female ones because most of us are LGBTQ+.

Bruno Mars, The Weekend, Ed Sheeran, Drake, Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny. Most of these are arguably more successful than even Taylor Swift when it comes to things like streams and appeal. 

If you want male popstars who make music or have aesthetics closer to female popstars then there’s Sam Smith, Years & Years (Olly Alexander), Troye Sivan, Adam Lambert, Lil Nas X and of course probably a plethora of indie-pop stars who aren’t huge either.

To this note most of the people besides Michael in the OP are, in fact, not popstars  they’re rockstars and made different forms of rock music.
