Die With A Smile Becomes the Most Streamed Female Song of All Time

As of today’s Spotify update, and even a bit earlier than expected, Lady Gaga’s Bruno Mars assisted Die With A Smile surpassed Billie Eillish’s Birds of a Feather.

DWAS: 3,967,217,178 (+1.8M/day)

BOAF: 3,967,057,865 (1.2M/day)

 

This means Gaga has the biggest streaming song with a woman on it of all time.

 

Honestly a major accomplishment for an artist who, at the beginning of streaming, was often said to have a problem with crossing over into the streaming era.

 

*This also means Gaga will be the first woman to surpass the 4B mark on a song in the coming weeks. 

Side note: *This song also pushed Mayhem up a bit. Without DWAS, Mayhem performed almost equally as Beyoncé’s Renaissance. With DWAS it pushes Mayhem into one of the most (and going upward) streamed albums of this decade already.

A unique benchmark was set here too that often doesn’t get noted: This makes Lady Gaga the ONLY artist to have an album in 3 different decades in each decades Top 40 Most-Streamed Albums. The Fame Monster is the highest streamed album of the 2000s, period. A Star is Born soundtrack is #34 of the 2010s. And MAYHEM now sits at #40 of the 2020s. With current projections of growth, MAYHEM will probably rise to around #20-#25 by the end of 2027. 
 

Gaga has become comfortably one of the Top Ten Streaming Forces of the era. She also is relatively unique compared to her millennial contemporaries. Where Katy has most of her streaming numbers from earlier 10+ year old songs, Beyonce has most of her high streaming numbers from later songs and not very many billion-club songs, and Taylor has her highest numbers from 2015 and onward, Gaga’s numbers are more diverse and come from an array of different “re-peaks” in her career. She has multiple billion-status streamed songs from her original debut eras, then a jump again as she dipped into acting, and then another mid 2020s jump from her (satisfying) reheat of her nachos with Mayhem that struck a chord with both old fans and younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences. Perhaps this comes from Gaga stepping into (successfully) multiple arenas of entertainment that made her iconography more present even amongst younger people who didn’t know every single but appreciate her lore.
