Russian drone over Chișinău & North-East Romania, crashes in Moldova field

On September 8, 2026, a massive security alert disrupted the airspace of the Republic of Moldova when a Russian Shahed-type attack drone entered the country from Ukraine and headed directly toward the capital city of Chișinău. The incident caused the temporary closure of parts of Moldova's airspace and forced several commercial aircraft into holding patterns or rerouting.

The drone continued its flight westward toward Golăiești, in Iași County, Romania.

In northeastern Romania, authorities issued RO-Alert warnings in Iași, Vaslui, Neamț, and Botoșani counties, alerting residents to the potential risk of objects falling from the airspace.

After entering Romanian airspace, the drone crossed back into Moldovan airspace, where it was subsequently reported to have crashed. The drone came close to Roman, Neamț County, with Romanian authorities reporting that the aerial target was detected approximately 18 kilometres north of Roman as it travelled westward through Romanian airspace. Iași International Airport was temporarily closed/suspended because of the drone alert.

It was lowkey was exciting because it's the first time I received a drone allert on my phone.  

The first of many as nobody cares anymore internationally.
