That's true, I forgot they were going for the remainder of Vance's term.

Well, if you support him he can't be bad :vegas:

:holdmyhand:
Honestly, it's a shame he didn't commit to 2020 despite setting up an exploratory committee. Can only assume the internal data just wasn't there for him to take the risk given the Ohio Gov was a Republican and his term wasn't up in the Senate till 2024. The public data was generally positive although the name recognition nationally was low (which isn't always a problem for a presidential run, look at Obama).

If you live in a red state you should double check your registration is active.

In Texas they purge people's registrations to get rid of people who are deceased, etc but I'm willing to bet some people are purged and when they get to the voting booth they don't have an active registration.

My only hesitation is that he's 73 :bear:

After two 80 year old white men idk if we really have the appetite for a third as a nation, even if he is baggage free and popular :bradley:

Yeah, its a valid criticism and definitely shaping up to be the case that the boat has sailed for him.

Still, I think he'd make a good Veep pick for a ticket. Especially if a moderate democrat wins the nomination, he brings the progressive democrat vote with him while also being significantly less toxic to swing voter/centrists than most of the Democratic left do.

Or hell, keep holding Ohio down for whoever wins in 2028. We have a 92 year old senator, Brown can keep that seat and do the work to shift the balance of power in congress to the left :vegas:

As an aside, a small thing I'm just realizing is imagine Democrats get to 51 because Brown wins Ohio this year. Like, it's the last race called. All the glares at Trump and Vance 'cause if he had just left that hick in Ohio instead of picking the couch f*cker for a VP Republicans would keep the senate in that scenario :billie:

@pucihendzap I did some more snooping around 'cause I'm bored and jobless (after I get off work, that is :cheeky:).

The most major things a Democratic congress (both house and senate control) would do for Europe is reaffirm our loyalty to NATO (leaving NATO requires two-thirds of congress anyway, the president can't do it) and keeping American troops and bases in countries like Germany, Poland, the Baltics, etc for defense of both American interests and those countries and a reaffirmation of our alliances.

While Trump has influence as executive on the delivery of aid, Democrats would ensure Ukraine defense and humanitarian aid is fully funded. If Trump delays or refuses to send the funds that congress has provided for a certain cause the Democrats can use the Impoundment Control Act (passed in 1974 when Nixon was being a bitch :cheeky:) to FORCE him to approve what they've passed.

The big one is a Democratic congress could strike certain powers away from the executive branch to limit or remove entirely Trump's ability to start trade wars or impose tariffs via the "International Emergency Economic Powers Act" or Section 232. Democrats would not only have the power to do that, Trump's sh*t economy and how pissed off Americans are about it would behoove them to. Imagine the PR boon Democrats would be passing up if they didn't :rip: beef is literally $40+ a pound because of that man.

Democrats would also have sanctions power and while Israel will likely never be a "victim" of that power, other bad actors, like Russia, definitely could and would be.

Democrats would have the power to approve or deny diplomats, ambassadors, and officials and anyone not willing to commit to traditional alliances and trade norms would be rejected or filibustered (assuming Dems can hold the line...again, post-stroke Fetterman is a real risk/spoiler and a few others might be swayed by seemingly "normal" nominees for certain seats).

The power I'm hoping they use the most is oversight and subpoena powers. While nothing will really get through Trump's crooked ass DOJ to an actual trial and conviction, Democratic gavels could start compiling evidence as soon as January of next year then the SECOND a Democratic president walks into office in 2029, that hits their desk and the American version of the Nuremberg trials begins

Thanks! That's interesting

During 2024 I found a pleasant, informed, and probably a lil on the spectrum gentleman on YouTube that devoted hours upon hours to studying individual counties leading up to the election. My boy foresaw the loss days in advance. I hope I find his account again soon. I need to know what he thinks of the midterms. :messga:

The polls posted by PartySick are comforting I guess. +

I'm very concerned about what republicans will do though to cheat/cancel/delay elections... they will NEVER play it fair and accept results if they're not in their favor.

It's a fight against corruption, against billionaires (and trillionaire Musk), against Israel, against Russia...

Also keep in mind the polls will tighten closer to election day as red and blue states realign.

I'm seriously expecting every one of the key races to be decided by one or two percentage points :messga:

But no need to panic. Volunteer, donate, keep the topic raised, and most importantly VOTE. Whatever happens, we'll handle it. 'Cause there's no other choice :gayhat:

I found him. Voting Trend. He said on his Substack he’s quitting YouTube because his passion is going into the numbers and nuances of voting habits but people want him to confirm their biases and provided click bate slop. :messga:
His last video about polls was a few weeks ago and he broke down the Fox poll in Texas.  He did say that once early voting commenced he would start his prediction model again but idk if he actually will. :messga:

Aw, I get that :traumatica:

There are two election nerds I used to listen to. One was LetsTalkElections and he kinda had a Republican pilled counterpart/fued. Both of their audiences were eager to lash out if either said something critical of their respective parties.

Though LTE has had more success calling out the Dem establishment but I think that's 'casue the Dems are gearing up for our own tea party movement but policy driven instead of being driven by incels and nazis.

LTE comes off as a little too naïve and green still. I really liked just how thorough Voting Trend was last election cycle. He’s seasoned and has a pretty good understanding of the intricacies that go into sampling. And he literally focused on voting habits during his academic studies. I don’t think he’s coming back though. He posted his thoughts on the Midwest elections that just happened and it was essentially that AES and Hong underperformed compared to the polls because the media was able to get them off message on working class issues (think media continuously dragging AES into the Israel/Gaza topic) but he got dragged for it.

LTE's still in college, I believe. Or fresh from college. I enjoy his stuff :diane:

VT is very correct on that too. Combine it with voters' baseline anti-Arab racism, the Dem establishment's resentment of Abdul and everyone who supports him, and $70 million in opposition spending? I'm surprised he won at all.

I think what killed Hong was the last minute endorsement of her opponent. They tried to do the same for Stevens in Michigan and both races were extremely tight, they just broke different ways.

Kinda goes to my earlier point of progressive candidates winning on substance and issues and establishment candidates winning on campaign strategies and overwhelming corpo funding.

Ever since the recent changes to USPS last week, it is very important to hand deliver your absentee ballot to monitored dropbox and not USPS, office or mail boxes.

Make sure you're registered. Cos the maga are always cheating by de-register some people.
Then, go to your county's elections webpage and request your absentee ballot. If you are able, pick your ballot up at your county election office. New reporting shows that there is going to be more malfeasance by the United States Postal Service than previously expected.

If you aren't able to pick up the ballot, please try to plan to drop it off at a county monitored drop box. Do not put it into a mailbox or give to your mail carrier! One of the things that jumped out to me from the whistleblower reports is that the postal service will not deliver any ballot if there is a discrepancy between the information the USPS has and what is on the ballot envelope. So for example, in my case, my voter registration is in my full name, first, middle and last, because that's how it is on my driver's license. But the postal service has only my first and last name. Thus, my ballot would not be delivered because the name doesn't match their records.

Think of any mail you've received with misspellings. Think of how you've put your name on USPS change of address forms. If you use informed delivery, does that match your voter registration? All of these minor issues could put your important vote at risk.

Your vote has power or they wouldn't try so hard to prevent you from voting. I know it's difficult to believe because our country's politics have been such a mess for so long. But it's true. They would not spend so much time and money on making it more difficult for people to vote. Like messing with the mail. Like requiring that after check in, every single voter's name be handwritten on a single piece of paper so that lines grow discouragingly longer.

You have power. I implore you to use it and please vote.
