I was getting beat up on the bus or on the playground because of this.
None of the bullies or teachers were arabic or practicising muslims. They were white chavs.

At 16, I was walking alone alongside the canal which cuts through the city centre to go and meet friends. I was followed by a pack of chavs who were shouting homophobic abuse at me, threatening me, telling me they were going to kill me and r*pe me. 
All white. 

At 18, first week in Uni on a night out. Made a comment to a flat mate about the dodgems opperator being fit at a carnival event. And as I did this, a random straight white lad walking past called me a ******* and threatened to hit me. 

At 20, working in the only surviving gay bar in town, I got glassed by a straight white guy who had come in with a stag party when trying to get them to leave because they were harrasing a trans customer. 

So please tell me about how muslims are incompatible with western culture. And tell me how they pose a risk of violence towards me. 

All of that is wild. The white chavs are insane, clinically insane. There's one at my work and I have to work so hard to conceal my literal fear of her.....I know what she is. Sorry you had to go through all that.

But to answer @GagaisHotAF no, you can criticize the dogma all you want. Islam, like any other religion, is whacky nonsense with antiquated bullsh*t built into superstitious delusion. And like any other religion, if you weave it into a theocratic power structure to prop up governments you'll witness mass suffering and potentially deadly conditions for citizens.

Religion is an idea and free for criticism or even mockery.

But attacking Muslims as a people (or referring to them as "Islamics" as that banned user did) just isn't it 'cause they are a marginalized group in Europe and the US, the former of which is what this thread is about, and a large majority of those that move to Western nations simply don't wish to cause harm to anyone.

People should be respected and on our site we simply don't tolerate overt intolerance.

I've noticed a lot of MAGA-adjacent people on here lately, a lot more than usual. Spouting casually racist stuff that people would have been too ashamed to say five years ago. It's like 10 people at MINIMUM. Personally I would love it if the rules were clarified to widen the definition of what is and isn't acceptable. People are getting comfortable debating some pretty foundational ****

I've been on here since 2023 and in that relatively small time I have observed a trend for this.

US election years always see an uptick in this. 

Like 2024 political threads could get rough especially from around June onwards. 

And then last year by comparison, relatively minor stuff. It was mostly just nerds when it came to any politics based news thread. 

And yet again, US midterms year and since the summer started there's been an uptick in people saying the most out of pocket ****. 

In some cases, the users are new and in others its relatively quiet ones suddenly speaking up. But always seems to line up pretty well with when social media is being flooded by dark money advertising operations to influence US politics. And then people are just coming here and regurgitating it.

I think people are just damaged and vulnerable to unkind thinking. I doubt we have many, if any, true MAGA or right wingers here. Just folks with bad or ignorant takes that range from "yikes" to "alright, get off this site bruh".

I'm willing to come off as naive to preserve my faith in people lmao.

I'm not sure how I could clarify beyond what I just said in that post  but please don't be afraid to report things 'cause we aren't afraid to warn or ban for them.

Random but upon further research of this opinion I found that this is legitimately a very American stance to have.

In a weird way, Americans are vastly more tolerant of different cultures and people than Europeans are and I find that simultaneously hilarious (because Europeans look down on us so often) and sad 'cause diversity is always a strength in a community and the European demand for assimilation is an odd concept for many Americans* to grasp. It's probably why we're so unapologetically ourselves abroad too.

*Right wingers are freak outliers and haven't represented the popular thinking in the US for years

not racist to criticize a religious practice. islam is not a race, and there are muslims of all races. it is the second largest religion with billions of practicers.
