It’s not that simple though. When a law is discriminatory and harms human rights, it must be questioned. Although every country holds sovereignty, international law prohibits the adoption of regulations that discriminate based on religion. This specific law hurts freedom of religion and freedom of expression of the Muslim community, causing even greater harm to Muslim women who wear full-face veils. To give an example, banning the veil can drive these women away from schools and the labor market. Ultimately, it’s the same as punishing Muslim women for practicing their faith.

I support laws that ban face-covering clothing in public spaces when it makes it impossible to identify people. In my view, face masks should not be covered by such a ban, because a significant part of the face remains visible.
