I'm really not surprised by this. She's always been interested in science and technology. I do miss when it was about the intersection of art and tech, and folding that into the Lady Gaga project. But I get that her health struggles over the years made her think about how she could use her resources to help people. The Nurtec ad was exactly that, and I do believe she did it because the medication helped her and she wanted to share that.

What irks me a bit is how tone deaf these essentially big pharma capitalist ventures can come across. Then again, she comes from a privileged background, entrepreneur's daughter, so it doesn't really shock me. As far as capitalist projects go, it's pretty tame and well intentioned. It's just never going to be the part of her I'm interested in. Seeing her credited as Stefani on the site does seem to draw a clear line between this and the Lady Gaga project, at least.

Skincare is a major trending market at the moment and its psychology is a major part of tech industry obsession with transhumanism. So its a 2 birds with 1 stones situation.

Plus it will take time for the proprietary AI tech on skin testing to reach a point where it is a scaleable profitable business on its own at a time when investors are starting to hedge bets in the AI world due to the continuing debt buildup and lack of true profit return.

Using the R&D on the AI system to effectively produce a ready for market profit maker is actually quite a smart way to get around the scaling costs of developing AI tech now and the long pipeline between creation and profit with AI tech.

If its traded publicly, I'd definitely consider stocks in it.

Would you be my Michael? I’ll be your Gaga :staymad:

I’m strictly against the use of AI period. ESPECIALLY in medical settings, I’m not trusting no machine that tells me how to fix myself when most of the time AI has to be checked by an actual human for validity.

Do you think they just let the machines work with no supervision and then ship the product straight away? That's not how science and research works lmao

The AI just narrows down where to look. It predicts which untested compounds might do something for a specific skin function, then those get thoroughly tested by scientists on real living tissue in the lab. I am against AI too, but if there's one place where it can actually be useful, it is in research.

I mean, AI diagnostics are already proving to be more reliable than human diagnostics in medical settings.

Because if trained correctly, AI doesn't go "but what about your future are you sure you don't want kids" or "i've put an extra stitch in for the husband's benefit".

or every problem you have is because of your body weight, you need to move more

or your period is irregular and that's normal so go rest

or your mental struggles are just because you are unstable and have personality issues

This could actually benefit women and marginalized people IF USED CORRECTLY. A friend of mine got sent home with Advil after months without a period because the (male) doctor told her she was just "built that way." Turns out she had an 11cm ovarian cyst that could have burst at any moment. Medical gaslighting is a real issue, and it's one place where AI could help. Do I think the medical industry is well intentioned? No. But on paper, AI assisted diagnosis could actually benefit people.

Gaga becoming an AI Technocrat that’s supposedly experimenting on lab grown skin wasn’t on my bingo card for this week. Time for an unfollow on socials.

I'm loving the drama here and on Twitter :icant:

I see most think AI is just one thing and that's incorrect, this is not generative AI which is the one we're all against, I think and hope lol

Yeah 100%

So many of the women I'm friends with have suffered through endometriosis and other similar health issues and the problems they've had with doctors have been horrific.
I'm a chunky guy, I'm used to doctors ignoring any complaints until it's progressed further because "well your fat so thats why" but I've never been disrespected the way my female friends have by doctors.

I'm completely against AI used to generate "art" but medical applications are exactly what it should be developed for.

Yeah, people seem to have forgotten that artificial intelligence is more than what's hit the mass market post-covid.
Everyone here has been using forms of AI for their entire life if they grew up after the dotcom boom. If you used clippy, you used AI.

We absolutely need to fight the current state of data centre planning, we absolutely need to fight GenAI and the AI industry titans like Altman & Musk.
But let's not start fighting the actual justifiable use cases for AI that when used at existing scale and even planned expanded scale are nothing compared to the evils of corporate GenAI.
