The promotional images and videos aren't AI, those are real scientists in the labs. The AI is being used by the scientists to create models of the skin and speed up the research regarding how the skincare works. This is exactly what AI should be used for. AI is an incredibly powerful tool that can take medical research that would take 10 years for humans to model, study, categorise, and help the scientists make new discoveries faster in 1/10 of the time. AI usage in med science has also thus far been showing better diagnostic potential than humans because it lacks the bias shown by human healthcare professionals towards certain groups

This is not news, it was mentioned in an interview Gaga did in the last year or so. One of her magazine covers. Michael said she gave him the idea talking about skin health based on what she learned through Haus Labs, and they co-founded it. 
 

This thread is extra even by GGD standards. It’s late summer in the northern hemisphere, seems like we should all go touch some grass.

Of course, she’s completely free to do whatever she wants with her career and her time, and I respect that. I’ve been a Gaga fan for so many years, so this isn’t coming from a place of negativity or wanting to control her choices. I just can’t help feeling a little disconnected from all these business ventures and promotional projects.

What made me fall in love with Gaga in the first place was her music, her creativity, her performances, and the way she seemed completely consumed by making art. As a longtime fan, I would personally be much happier to see more of that energy, passion and ambition channeled into music and creative projects. I’ll always support her because I love her art, but the artist is ultimately the reason I’m here

When I mean AI scam it's because it's just being used in the LLM/chatbot way, not only the science research side of AI.

I went to the website and have been reading everything they have been revealing. Apparently, it is a scientific platform built around a core technology: they have bioengineered an ex vivo system that can keep intact human skin cultures, with their full thickness (all their layers), alive for four weeks. This quadruples the ex vivo testing periods that were previously possible, since skin cultures could previously only be maintained for one to five days. Four weeks of intact skin outside the body! This makes it possible to conduct much more extensive and thorough testing of allergens, efficacy, accumulation, toxicity, permeability, etc., over a full month, without involving in vivo human or animal testing 

Moreover, the philosophy behind this initiative revolves around extensively testing cosmetics and active ingredients across all Fitzpatrick skin tones, all skin types, and different stages of skin aging, enabling multifactorial personalization and better segmentation

The platform is entirly science-driven, with AI being used to predict, anticipate, and manage variables throughout the process. However, the real centerpiece is the ability to reproduce all those predictions in the skin cultures, including all the different variables.

In a way, they are introducing into the cosmetics industry’s manufacturing process an R&D model that was previously only accessible to pharmaceutical companies (a world Polanski comes from as an investor and benefactor; his LinkedIn page outlines his background ). On top of that, they are introducing a new technology that could also benefit the pharmaceutical industry, since it extends the viability of human skin cultures and makes it possible to test transdermal drugs and cosmetics over extended periods without involving in vivo testing.

I’m not judging it, nor do I intend to get into a debate about it, but this used to belong in the realm of science fiction, and the information on the website is genuinely fascinating

Good call … did a quick browse on the first few investors, and just on the blink these investments stood out … neither here nor there but just fwiw for reference

Initialized Capital includes Reddit, Coinbase, and Instacart in its “unicorn” portfolio of 27 companies that it invested in at the seed level (Instacart just had to issue a statement regarding their use of algorithms to apparently arbitrarily change pricing for the same item depending on the user data of the respective shopper)

Sozo Ventures’ current portfolio includes Twitter, Coinbase, Palantir, Anduril

Hawktail invests in Story.com (from the first blush on the blink it looks like a Generative AI storybuilding platform)

 

Venture capital is over my head so, I never really know what any of this means … right now it just seems like their core network for whatever that means as far as capital allocation, data utilization, and resource sharing?

 

ETA: Big picture, it’ll probably make its way to the consumer market, but to get the early ROI within the existing portfolio, the in-house bank is licensing the skin patents out to their industrial, defense (Anduril), possibly surveillance (Palantir), maybe Entertainment (Story.com?) partners to outfit or humanize the look and feel of their robotics products / models … ?
