A company called Hirose Enterprise and a producer named Shuji Hirose are suing Beyoncé, Parkwood Entertainment, Sony for alleged copyright infringement.

Shuji Hirose says it owns the rights to a song titled "Moonraker," performed by a musician named John Holiday.

The company says Beyoncé sampled the “spoken-word introduction” of the song "Alien Superstar," which was released on her 2022 album "Renaissance."

The suit claims Beyoncé and her team did not obtain a license at all for the use of the sample before the release but did obtain one weeks after the album release but only from the performer Holiday, who Hirose claims had transferred his entire interest in the song decades earlier.

Hirose says it put Beyoncé’s company is on notice about the infringement but has continued to sell the record. The company is seeking an injunction to stop Beyoncé from continuing to make money off their work and for unspecified damages.

That's what happens when you sample in your whole album and hire uncredited ghost writers :reductive:

Idk how such big names like Beyoncé still get sued over samples, these major record labels should know how to avoid copyright infringement lawsuits

So basically, the artist gave their permission but this company is like "AcTuALlY -- we own the masters so WE have to decide" as if the song hasn't been out for 4 years.

Beyoncé and her team did NOT obtain a license AT ALL before the release but weeks after the album release and from the wrong person. They didn't wait 4 years, Parkwood had written notice by January 2023 that the sample use was unauthorized.

i'm reminded of that one video of her back in the day saying theatre shows don't like her and her team attending bc they'd "just be stealing everything" as in like stealing stageing and lighting ideas for her own show
