He was just going by his legal name so it would’ve been under “Abel Tesfaye and Lady Gaga”. But it's true, he just did this persona so well and if he went to being Abel, would he change too much? Thing is, while he's still a successful touring act, his recent work hasn't been like the hits he's been used to. He's not had a truly big hit since his After Hours album. So, it's not like he's bringing the persona back because using his real name didn't work so he wanted to go back to the way things were. He must just genuinely connect with it. Die For You, Creepin, Popular, One of the Girls and Timeless have all been global hits since After Hours. He has like 30 songs over 1 Billion streams which is absolutely insane. Perhaps he decided to keep such an iconic name but still explore different subject matter, his next album could be told from the perspective of Abel Tesfaye rather than The Weeknd.
