Tired of Pop Stars Not Actually Being Progressive

Why aren’t there any pop stars sticking their necks out at all?

There have always been artists, regardless of popularity, pushing the narrative. It’s weird to me that more didn’t come out and say Free Palestine and **** Ice. It’s strange they still don’t. It’s only when they need something from us (the very obvious move of Taylor’s team today to finally stop Trump from using her music conveniently right when there are rumors swirling she is preparing Taylor Swift TV).

I just find it weird that even Gaga has not been more vocal. Are they all that funded by Zionist money…are all the labels really that controlled…that they are afraid of what will happen?

we aren’t stupid. I think many people here in America get what’s going on and if there was a sudden staged hate campaign of a star like Gaga or Bey or Tay’s level right after they criticized Israel, we would get why that happened and still support.

it just boggles my mind that we are literally in a surveillance state now (Don’t even get me down the rabbit hole where I believe there actually aren’t that many republicans anymore and it’s staged by the quasi-conservative tech bros), and that the most “liberal” pop star of all time, Gaga, couldn’t even be bothered to say **** Ice at the Grammys last year.

it’s strange to me. I want there to be a sudden era where these artists come out on the right side because one way I could actually see all these stars begin to flop is if the People genuinely start rejecting them for political reasons.

All I know is if democrats do not win the midterms that all hell will come because no one actually believes republicans are winning right now and 90% of people loathe Israel right now.

hopefully Gaga is smart enough to say **** it and call it out.

i do kinda wonder if her fiance might be swaying her opinions a little. Yikes

I remember in 2016 how vocal the popstars were against trump

I remember gaga posting LOTS of media on instagram pro hillary on the election day and even protesting in front of the trump tower after the results kicked in

i don’t know what happened after these 10 years. One could think “oh but gaga is now 40, it’s time for younger people to do it”, but the younger popstars are even less vocal

Not only about politics, but about everything. Everything is pale on pop music right now

See the interviews, no one talks about any important subject

We had something during the grammy awards ceremony, but even then it was sosososo calculated. Everyone seems more worried than ever to express their opinions

Or maybe their opinions really changed…

I think MAGA got all these businesses in chokehold. That orange is pretty clear on ruining someone's business for speaking out. The blackballing is real. So I think a lot of agencies are telling their clients, especially their US based, to stay away from politics during this time unfortunately.

I know. But it's also about their own safety imho. Seeing what the minions from those group did on Capitol few years ago probably scared enough of these celebrities.

Okay then don’t act like some bad ass on stage then and push an image that you are hard.

it’s fine if you want to be safe but don’t performative act like some hard persona when you protect your public safety over the safety of those innocently dying in a mass genocide.

Part of the risk of activism is danger. The main reason a revolution isn’t happening right now is people’s cognitive dissonance between the idea of activism and what it actually entails.

sometimes it actually is dangerous and you do it anyway.

that’s what makes it actually badass

I don't like it when pop stars are political - because it divides society. Lady Gaga is supposed to be the kindness Punk like she showed it on Chromatica, because when the tribes are fighting there can only be chaos, politic is extrem dirty.

You should build something good in parallel. The struggle intensifies the bad. It doesn't mean that you don't get involved as a kindness punk - it's a game you quit. The societies of All nations are at a turning point and no one seems to let up - the camps have to be reconciled so that something new arises. This political "games" are dangerous. It's enough - the price is paid by ordinary people all over the world. I have no recipe for now. I just was inspired by Chromatica and her vision of the fighting tribes.

I get what you’re saying, but I don’t particularly require the pop stars I enjoy to double as activists. It admittedly feels nice when they speak up for a cause that I also support, but I think it’s a huge burden to put on someone whose primary objective is to entertain. They lose so much of their privacy in their job, and I can understand why not all of them feel safe being publicly divisive with all the crazies in this country. ps I’m never sitting here like “hmm what does Ava Max think about the Strait of Hormuz”

I don’t really need a musician to say the same thing I believe in order to strengthen my beliefs. If they choose to, that’s great! But it’s not a requirement for me. I’m not going to feel better about how I feel just because someone more rich and famous said it was okay.

The only metaphor I can think of is pop stars are more like the pit stop folks on the sideline who mentally patch you up to get through the finish line of the day. Art can come from a political place, of course, but I like when music can take me out of the political hellscape for a little so I feel a little less dreadful. Remember when everything felt hopeless in 2016, and Gaga was like “you want to feel good with us?” during the Super Bowl halftime show? That felt so nice when everywhere else it seemed like hope was being ripped away

Not saying it’s bad when entertainers are activists- Kathy Griffin puts in the work and goes nonstop to speak about causes close to her heart, and I love that. I feel like it’s better to applaud the folks who are speaking out instead of tearing down the ones who maybe aren’t as vocal as if they’re just as complicit as the actual lawmakers enacting bad policy.

(and re: Gaga, I would like to reiterate that she has indeed spoken about ICE, and it got mainstream attention, and she used her Grammys speech to speak about the government’s scapegoating of trans people.)

sorry this was so long, but it’s something i’ve thought about a lot lately

Out of paranoia, cause I'm being completely serious, the israeli elites narrative has taken over the world. Rich people (and big popstars are an active part of them) won't say a thing because they're one way or another connected to such narrative. Get used to it. I made peace with it. For now

most of America is like this because of their "strong relations" so its no suprise to me that most of Americans support Israel, and most pop stars are American

Where's that Gaga interview clip that she says "you should read a book"

I don't believe in the glorification of murder, I do believe in the empowerment of women

Because it’s exhausting to speak out when everything is so stupid.

I’ve noticed it in myself. I still remain informed on everything but I no longer post about these things on my social media.

It’s not that people don’t care or don’t want to speak out. It’s just we are watching people get what they voted for. It’s as simple as that.

A lot of people have lost their desire to speak out but are still against everything. We’ll find out how people truly feel when elections happen.
