CDC New Director Will Focusing On Abortion Surveillance

Dr. Erica Schwartz, who on Wednesday became the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, made some alarming comments about abortion care during her confirmation hearings and signaled a potential increased surveillance of abortion patients.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) asked Schwartz if she would commit to collecting better data on abortions, pointing to the CDC's annual report of how many abortions are done each year in the U.S. The data program is voluntary, meaning some states like California, Maryland and New Jersey choose to not report annual abortion numbers to the federal agency. However, 44 states currently have some form of required reporting system for abortion care.

"Abortion surveillance is absolutely a critical component of what the CDC is currently doing," Schwartz responded.

"I also want to make sure that certain states are not conflating emergency services and hiding abortions in that emergency services case definition," she added. "We need to make sure we're pulling out true abortions and making sure that we're really having clear case definitions regarding abortions so the data is actually accurate."

There is no evidence that states are purposefully misclassifying abortion care when reporting statistics to the CDC. The implication that certain states are hiding abortion services behind the label of emergency care services is particularly egregious given that many women have died or nearly died after physicians denied them miscarriage care due to state-level abortion bans.

The Senate voted 51-44 to confirm Schwartz, largely along party lines — making her the first permanent director of the public health agency in the last year. Schwartz, a former deputy surgeon general during Donald Trump's first term, is the first Black woman to lead the CDC.

And then you have all the dumb pro lifers claiming pro life laws actually help women get abortions when necessary for their health. I’m sure they will find a way to blame doctors because that’s what they have been doing instead of realizing that criminalizing this kind of things just promotes malpractice

But keeping track of gun purchases is an invasion of privacy? Got it.

Exhibit #7258 of why I'll never respect the "both parties are the same" arguers.

Anybody who claims that document was fake is clearly an idiot atp. Everything in that document has become true.

Also Trump wants the author of P2025 to be one of his government watchdogs :rip: his entire plan has been laid out since before he became president again.

The 3 biggest remaining things from Project 2025 for anybody wondering now are a nationwide ban on abortion, completely dissolving and scrapping the role of the department of education and requiring people to declare their citizenship inc the country they were born in on the US census.

Thats not every big thing of course there’s almost 40% of the document that’s not fulfilled yet.

The worst is yet to come I’m afraid.

They still wanna ban abortion, change the Civil Rights Act as it’s “anti-white”, abolish the Department of Education, implement “Biblically accurate” representations of family and reproduction into schools, ban transgender people from receiving hormones and surgeries, the right to deport people based on their family ties and history, privatise education as it’s a “privilege” and allow only NATO countries (currently only about 35 in the world) to have a military — and allow the most powerful nation (US) to decide who is allowed in NATO. As well as implement nuclear capabilities into regular military action (for example basically upgrading a rocket launcher into becoming a projectile nuclear weapon). Banning all p*rnography and arresting/fining any company who is and HAS produced it — including banning OnlyFans. Plus a ban on anything related to Socialist and Communist countries — primarily China.

And that’s just a small portion of what else is in the mandate they’ve been following that hasn’t happened yet.

Many of the worst parts of history repeating itself as well but instead of sneaking up on citizens of said nation, an insanely sped-up roller-coaster-coming-from-all-sides version instead...

But HeR EmAiLS though (sorry I'll never get over that, that election made sure the almost 50-year old plan by the Repubs to dismantle women's bodily autonomy was set in motion, among err...many other things). These f**kers texted their military strike plans on the Houthis to their hatred for Europe through a third-party app with a journalist from The Atlantic present in the chat, to name one of hundreds of "incidents". Such things are apparently just blips and totally legal - not even talking of the implications of their convos itself.

I'm kind of stuck between Huxley - too many heavily pacified citizens controlled through class-based social division and ever-present sociologically engineered escapism - and Orwell - authoritarianism through force ie. Ministry of Love's "judge, jury and executioner" style and the Ministry of Truth's Doublethink/daily historical revisionism: "Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia." Since trying to numb the cognitive dissonance experienced by normal people seems to be an element too. Or is the most terrifying innate impulse of all in an insane situation like this.

Strength and solidarity to all US women/girls/people of child-bearing age caught up in this horror... Keep strong, keep fighting where possible. We're on your side. :shadow:

Trumps support base won't care. They are an overwhelming majority of genocidal fascists.
